Civil Engineer 5 (Geotechnical), Black & Veatch Corporation, Denver, CO

Duties: Serve as Geotechnical Specialist for dams and tunnels. Develop and apply engineering techniques, concepts, and approaches to engineering problems under general direction. Prepare a variety of engineering deliverables for multiple projects. Research and develop recommendations for equipment and materials selection. Oversee collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work. Prepare engineering calculations following standard methods and principles. Apply advanced engineering techniques and analyze problems and methods. Review engineering work or assignments. Support geotechnical site investigation, do and check slope stability analysis of embankments, foundation analysis and develop civil engineering specifications for dam projects. Geotechnically characterize tunnel ground and design primary and final support for tunnels. Primary support includes design of shotcrete lining, steel fibers, rock bolts, lattice girders and steel arches. Final support included design of cast-in-place lining for Sequential Excavation Method and precast segmental lining for TBM excavation. Preparation of geotechnical documents for tunnel projects like Data report, baselines and other technical specifications. Develop specification for operation and maintenance of tunnel projects. Applicants for this position must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require employer sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (i.e., H-1B visa, TN visa or any other non-immigrant status). No Hire / Fire authority.

Requirements: Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related, plus 6 years of related experience, or alternatively, Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related, plus 8 years of related experience. PE License is required. Must have experience in design and construction of tunnels and dams. Must have experience with AutoCAD, MATLAB, and RocScience software suite (including RS2, RocLab, Roc Support, Swedge, Unwedge,) FLAC2D & 3D, Plaxis, and Microsoft office. National travel required up to 10%. Telecommuting is permissible within a reasonable commuting distance from the Denver, CO Black & Veatch office. Must have good written and verbal communications skills in English.
