The Opportunity:

The Maintenance Planner position is responsible for providing technical expertise in a reliability centered maintenance program. This position is also responsible for the facility’s mechanical integrity program; recommends needed improvements to operations management in the area of equipment maintenance including strategies and best practices. The Planner position will also be responsible for coordinating maintenance jobs by assigned priority, kitting them up and ensuring all parts, etc are available for daily maintenance as well as shut down planning. The position may be called upon to supervise, direct and coordinate the work of maintenance personnel (electrical and mechanical) within the mill. Will ensure the safety of the workforce, provide quality and efficient execution of assigned work, monitor staff and crew performance, submit accurate reports of work execution, take appropriate action in response to emergencies, and administer company policies as they relate to assigned personnel.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Administers and models safety in his/her area of responsibility; Participates in and enforces the safety program for the maintenance department; reviews safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all maintenance employees. Ensures compliance with all applicable OSHA and plant safety standards.

  • Administers predictive and preventative maintenance systems to proactively prevent process failures. Implements, oversees and documents the preventive and corrective maintenance processes of industrial equipment and building systems.

  • Provides support with capital projects; participating in equipment materials selection and layout to optimize maintainability; promoting consistency by standardizing equipment; providing technical expertise for installation, maintenance procedures and start-up of all new critical equipment; assuring that necessary spare parts are identified, and inventory maintained.

  • Safely and efficiently coordinates activities of Maintenance Technicians engaged in setting up, installing, rebuilding and maintaining equipment and building assets.

  • Provides for a process to receive feedback from Maintenance Technicians completing jobs to adjust and improve work plans.

  • Estimates work hours requirements; plans maintenance jobs and ensures availability of resources to complete maintenance jobs. Engage in daily and shut down maintenance planning.

  • Works with Storeroom to ensure the inventory of maintenance parts and equipment is available. Updates and standardizes equipment bill of materials.

  • Communicates directly with the operations department to coordinate maintenance and repair work in process areas.

  • Participates in the coordination and effective supervision of outside contractors.

  • Utilizes and maintains JDE system for work order entry.

  • Maintains and consistently applies a thorough working knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

  • Maintains compliance with all environmental policies and procedures; ensures that all city, county, state, and federal regulations relating to the maintenance crews are met at all times.

What you need to succeed:

  • BS - Engineering desirable. Minimum of 5 years maintenance experience in heavy industry or equivalent.

  • Prior maintenance planning experience preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Excellent problem-solving ability.

  • Ability to communicate effectively across departments.

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • JDE experience

  • Knowledge of both mechanical and electrical components used in industrial applications.

  • Knowledge of and or experience in paper mill processes and equipment.
