Ford Motor Company Materials Manufacturing Engineer in Dearborn, Michigan

  • Manage material changes / new materials - work with Product Development, Materials Engineering on trialing and approving new materials, and material changes.

  • Support, maintain, and coordinate IT upgrades to Internal Material Quality (IMQ) Database

  • Work with cross-functional engineering teams to define architecture that will deliver best cost and manufacturing process for future platforms, upper body core and closure stampings.

  • Champion and develop standardized solutions light-weighting materials, manufacturing process and lubricants used in stamping.

  • Benchmarking of best practices and processes (internal and external).

  • Development of new technologies and Bill of Process next generation architecture.

  • Champion implementation, support, and development of aluminum traceability for incoming blanks, coils, internal blankers, and all internal stamping equipment.

  • Champion and develop dimple strategies for aluminum and laser welded blanks to optimize stamping through put, drawn shell formability, and blanking.

  • Lead the transformation with cross functional team of the NA steel industry from blast furnace to electric arc furnace to achieve carbon footprint reduction.

  • Develop, maintain, and update documentation for material codes needed for Ford systems to support new lubricants and materials developed by Lightweight Material Technical specialist.

  • Lead the development of new aluminum destacking technology to eliminate dimples to improve stamping plant through put and quality.

  • SPOC for stamping plant technical support (lube measurement, tensile test, IMQ, Argus, lubricants, etc.) and onboarding of new stamping plant labs.

  • On site lead for material and lubricant related issues at stamping and assembly plants to identify root cause and implement solution with cross functional Ford team as required.

Minimum requirements we seek :

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science, or related field.

  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience

  • 3+ years’ experience in automotive stamping or blanking of aluminum, steel and AHSS steel.

  • Ability to work in office and plant environments.

Our preferred qualifications :

  • Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science or related field

  • 7+ years of manufacturing experience.

  • Knowledge of automotive sheet metal specifications; stamping lubrication, material characterization, fundamentals of metallurgy, heat treatment

  • Knowledge of stamping die materials

  • Practical CAD experience, CATIA, 3DX, NX and TeamCenter a plus

  • Ability to analyze data statistics.

  • Strong verbal, presentation, and written skills.

  • Highly motivated self-starter capable of delivering objectives with minimal direct supervision.

  • PROPOSED TIME ALLOCATION FOR POSITION: 100% VOME-Industrial Platform Core: 85% Stamping, 15% Global/Body/paint interface
