Materials Engineer

Job Description

• Manage materials used in automotive body exterior installed assemblies or systems.

• Possess in-depth knowledge in one or more basic materials such as resins, elastomers, metals, and fluids.

• Understand the compatibility of these materials with secondary operations like painting, rubber bonding, and electroplating.

• Develop and maintain global material and performance specifications, evaluate and approve supplier products to these specifications.

• Direct suppliers in the development and application of appropriate materials.

• Support material cost reduction initiatives.

• Review, provide input, correct, and approve engineering drawings and bill of materials for Teamcenter Notices.

• Collaborate with the product team to understand and evaluate exterior non-sheet metal components for future use in new programs.

• Engage in discussions, research options, and provide guidance for the product development team.

Work Site

This is a hybrid position requiring some days on-site in Dearborn, Michigan and some days remote.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid role, with onsite work required from Tuesday to Thursday. The individual will work in a lab environment that includes about 100 people, including 20% UAW employees, during onsite days. The working hours are traditional first shift with no overtime expected
