Henry Ford Academy is a college prep high school (grades 9-12) located inside the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation & Greenfield Village and surrounded by the campus of Ford Motor Company. Students come from districts within Wayne County, as well as private, parochial, and home schools. The model partnership focuses some of the best thinking from the business, non-profit, and public education worlds toward the common goal of building a school that prepares students for life in the 21st century.

Job Title: School Monitor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a responsible and approachable School Monitor to maintain a safe and orderly environment within the school's hallways and common areas. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build positive relationships with students, and effective time management skills to ensure smooth daily operations. This role involves monitoring student behavior, assisting with transitions between classes, and ensuring compliance with school policies, while also providing support to teachers and administrators as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

● Student Engagement: Build rapport with students by being approachable, supportive, and attentive to their needs. Serve as a positive role model, offering guidance and encouragement where necessary.

● Monitoring: Ensure students adhere to school rules while in hallways, common areas, and during transitions between classes. Address inappropriate behavior calmly and with authority, reinforcing school policies.

● Conict Resolution: Mediate minor conicts between students, providing a safe space for resolution and redirecting students to appropriate staff members when necessary.

● Safety and Security: Monitor hallways to ensure a safe environment, intervene when necessary, and report any safety concerns or incidents to school administrators.

● Time Management and Scheduling: Assist in managing the ow of students to ensure smooth transitions between classes, to and from assemblies, and during lunch periods. Help maintain a timely and organized school environment.

● Attendance Monitoring: Support the enforcement of school attendance policies by tracking student tardiness or absence from class, and report any recurring issues to the administration.

● Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, counselors, and school administrators to create a cohesive and supportive environment. Communicate effectively to ensure students' needs are met and any issues are promptly addressed.

● General Support: Provide additional support to staff during school-wide events, re drills, or emergency situations, and assist with other administrative tasks as needed.

Qualications:

● Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a passion for working with students.

● Ability to manage time, schedules, and processes efciently.

● Conict resolution and problem-solving skills.

● A calm and assertive demeanor with the ability to maintain order.

● Experience working in an educational setting is preferred but not required.

● High school diploma or equivalent required.

● Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

● Patience and empathy, with a rm approach to discipline.

● Teamwork and collaboration with school staff.

Work Environment:

The School Monitor will spend most of their time in hallways and common areas within The Henry Ford Museum and/or Greeneld Village, interacting with students and staff, ensuring smooth transitions, and maintaining a positive school atmosphere.
