This is a Job Description for an MT/MLT-FT-Rush Stennis Hospital-Dekalb in De Kalb, Mississippi.

Summary: This job receives and prepares specimens according to standard protocols and procedures; performs analytical laboratory tests and calculations according to section requirements and protocols; performs quality control procedures required for test performance; calibrates, maintains and monitors laboratory equipment; works under general supervision; position minimally requires telephone access to a Medical Technologists when troubleshooting problems; performs phlebotomy procedures as appropriate; and maintains confidentiality of patient related information.

Duties and Responsibilities: Performs specimen testing with minimal errors within established time frames utilizing assay principles to correlate test results while exhibiting the ability to understand when to seek help for interpretation and correlation of information; Demonstrates the ability to perform multiple tasks by effectively prioritizing the workflow. Performs and documents quality control, Escalates appropriately when results are out of control and ensures adequate documentation of corrective action, performs maintenance and basic troubleshooting procedures, performs proficiency testing accurately and timely, and participates in performance improvement initiatives. Adheres to regulatory compliance guidelines and maintains an awareness of accreditation standards for laboratories by reviewing the most current checklist/standards.  Follows safety guidelines, OIG compliance requirements and follows protocol for proficiency testing of samples. Successfully completes individual competency and completes all annual requirements.  Meets organizational and departmental goals and objectives by accommodating the special needs of the organization/department; Actively participates in training programs. Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style. Other related duties as required.

Requirements and Qualifications: Required -- High School diploma or equivalent. Preferred -- Associate's degree. Required -- None. Preferred -- Hospital or Clinic Laboratory Testing experience. Required -- Current Louisiana license or temporary license as Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Technician. Meets CLIA and CAP requirements for testing personnel relative to scope of duties.
