BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:

The role of Transportation Director is responsible for overseeing and optimizing all aspects of our transportation and logistics operations. Dynamic, hands-on management and strategic leadership will ensure the efficient and timely delivery of our products while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the distribution network across outbound to customer, inbound from the vendor, inbound returns, interfacility movements, international moves, and routing processes to ensure capacity, service, and cost commitments are met to support business objectives.

  • Directs the analyses of contractual commitments, customer specifications, and other data to coordinate and develop logistics program activities.

  • Manages transportation provider relationships via regular business reviews and reporting.

  • Identifies and executes against opportunities for process improvements within the supply chain team.

  • Develops and oversees logistics budgets and service metrics, providing leadership and direction to address opportunities that align to business unit strategy.

  • Oversees all carrier contract negotiations to ensure strong service level agreements (SLAs) governing service, cost, quality, and sustainability.

  • Develops and implements internal transportation procedures, new vendor management policies, procedures, processes, and standards as necessary.

  • Analyzes departmental financial and operational performance, prepares the annual budget and monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budgetary constraints. Takes corrective action as needed.

  • Provides subject-matter expertise and recommendations to senior leadership according to best practices in Transportation Operations.

  • Identifies problems and inefficiencies in transportation processes; presents and implements enhancements and solutions to address issues.

  • Maintains current knowledge of transportation and technology developments and trends; recommends and implements improvements based on this knowledge to provide more efficient services to internal and external customers.

  • Owns Parcel Carrier relationships for both national and regional carriers. Evaluates areas of opportunity to enhance relationships with key partners.

  • Recommends process improvements and enhancements to streamline operations, increase throughput, improve accuracy, and add value to the customer.

  • Collaborates with internal teams (Sales, Procurement, Customer Service, Warehousing, Transportation, and Accounting) to maximize profitability, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

  • Fosters culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and collaboration within the logistics department.

  • Builds relationships across key stakeholders and internal customers, including Sales, Business Units, Finance, IT, and Operations.

  • Coaches and lead the team with a focus on performance, accountability, and development.

  • Drives the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC’s vision and unity of purpose.

  • Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required

    EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field or the equivalent experience is required.

  • Minimum of eight years of management experience in supply chain, logistics, operations, and transportation roles with emphasis on small parcel freight experience.

  • Experience in supply chain systems, including but not limited to SAP and TMS required.

  • Minimum of five years of experience in managing associates required.

    SKILLS:

  • Excellent communication, management, follow up, coaching, organization and analytical skills.

  • Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Positive and professional demeanor in all interaction with colleagues, carriers, and vendors.

  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and critical thinking skills with demonstrated use of data analyses and metrics to drive decision making and continuous improvement.

  • Understanding of Microsoft applications, Word, Access, Excel, and Outlook required.

  • Effective technical writing ability and proficiency with window-based applications required

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel up to 10% of the time is required

  • This position may require access to International Traffic in Arms Regulations Information (“ITAR”) and/or Controlled Unclassified Information (“CUI”).

    Compensation starting at $123410 - $193930 depending on experience.

    The salary range represented is based on similar roles in comparable industries, and the cost of labor in respective cities. Actual compensation is based on the candidate’s relevant experience, education requirements and peer pay equity. The Company reserves the right to modify the range as market conditions change.
