Synchrony VP, Controllership - General Accounting Controller in Dallas, Texas

Job Description:

Role Summary/Purpose:

The VP, Controllership - General Accounting Controller reports directly to the SVP, Assistant Controller and is responsible for leading the accounting processes for a wide variety of areas including loans, acquisitions/dispositions of loan portfolios, the allowance for credit losses, retail deposits, intercompany accounting, Regulation W, and legal entity accounting. This leader will oversee all aspects of these and other accounting processes including the month-end close process, designing, executing and monitoring controls, ensuring SOX compliance, financial close and reporting processes, and driving key strategic initiatives impacting these processes. The position will be responsible for ensuring that SOX controls and processes are in place and operating effectively and that procedures are well documented and up to date. This role leads a global team of approximately 25 professionals located in the U.S. and Asia.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the financial close, transactional accounting and provide leadership to the accounting team to ensure proper execution of SOX internal controls over financial reporting

  • Lead the identification and evaluation of process improvements across the accounting function including automation

  • Lead efforts to support strategic finance initiatives including research, presentations and analysis including coordination on a cross-functional basis including with senior and executive management

  • Responsible for talent management functions in the U.S. and Asia including: performance evaluations, coaching and development of team members and ensuring all staff comply with compliance requirements

  • Oversight of the accounting for loan receivables and allowance for credit losses including maintaining a thorough understanding of the end to end business processes

  • Oversight of the accounting for securitization trusts and intercompany including maintaining a thorough understanding of the end to end business processes

  • Oversight of Regulation W procedures ensuring compliance including ensuring internal control processes affecting Regulation W are well designed, maintained, documented, and working effectively

  • Oversight of Retail deposits accounting including simplification and automation of retail deposit processes

  • Oversight of general accounting for funding (deposits, unsecured notes, and secured borrowings), fixed assets, intangibles, and prepaid assets including r esponsibility for maintaining a thorough understanding of the end to end business processes

  • Oversight of Cash Accounting to provide controllership oversight and management support across Synchrony's Cash accounting process activities, ensuring timeliness and accuracy needs are met

  • Perform special projects, and additional duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related Business area and 10+ years of accounting/finance experience or in lieu of degree, 15 years equivalent experience.

  • 3 years in a role with process/quality improvement experience - develop and implement new processes, improve existing routines

Grade/Level: 14

The salary range for this position is 150,000.00 - 250,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months' time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months' time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don't meet the time in position or performance expectations).
