The Procurement Category Manager – Advanced Sourcing is intended to be the Strategic Procurement single point of contact for critical growth and new platform technology programs to ensure suppliers selected for development and production have the capabilities and qualities to ensure long term success. The Advanced Purchasing Lead will be at the forefront of supplier identification, early project quoting, price negotiations, and supply chain value idea generation. Advanced purchasing activities include a focus on risk management, commercial excellence, ESG adherence, and collaboration with key stakeholders from various areas including business units, R&D, Sales Pursuit and Marketing Teams, Supplier Quality, Category Managers and SIOP / Supply Chain. This role will enable high level supplier performance during the early stages of Alkegen’s Product Development Process working with stakeholders to make certain project timelines and financial objectives are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Function as the Procurement subject matter expert sought out by business leaders to support large scale and ongoing negotiations for raw material and 3rd party services on business pursuit and new platform technologies.

  • Perform Advanced Strategic Procurement project management responsibilities for raw material and 3rd party services by comprehending all critical requirements and dates across multiple project teams. The Advanced Procurement Lead is expected to monitor, drive resolution of and escalate high risk items as needed.

  • Actively participate as a strategic partner in high value and high probability business pursuit teams meeting to drive Procurement requirements from project on-set.

  • In alignment with R&D and other Procurement Category Managers, investigate and identify supplier solutions for the project teams’ raw material needs

  • Support raw material cost card development on new and existing raw material and 3rd party services.

  • Develop a catalog of business pursuit BOMs with supplier alternatives and project phased pricing.

  • Enable optimal total cost of ownership and development of short- and long-term strategies while minimizing supplier risk ensuring suppliers adhere to needed timelines and meeting all business stakeholders’ needs in relation to direct materials and 3rd party services.

  • Ensure New Supplier Approval process flow is enforced when new suppliers are being onboarded for prototype and/or production parts or services.

  • Ensure completion of early phase risk assessments.

  • Monitor external markets for commercial opportunities and challenges, identify and resolve gaps between business requirements and supplier performance and identify/resolve gaps in business unit compliance with procurement policies, programs and contracts; pinpoint the required resources for resolution, escalating issues as required.

  • Lead development of quotation strategy; manage development of Request for Quotation (RFQ) documents to be distributed to qualified suppliers; lead detailed comparison of supplier RFQ responses; structure analysis to help stakeholders compare strengths and weaknesses of suppliers and their proposals.

  • Lead the development of negotiation strategies, cost modeling and sensitivity/scenario analysis to help stakeholders understand trade-offs and business benefits of various negotiation strategies/outcomes.

  • Make award notification(s); continue to lead strategic sourcing project through contracting, confirming that negotiated outcomes are properly reflected in final contract language, and through implementation and ongoing governance and supplier relationship management.

  • Together with the Director, Global Strategic Procurement, enhance the culture of procurement excellence.

    Qualifications/Requirements :

Essential Requirements::

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Supply Chain or Engineering preferred).

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a strategic or advance purchasing role.

  • Excellent negotiation skills and ability to execute contracts/agreements to support complex early project supply partner relationships.

  • Ability to collaborate with and challenge business unit key stakeholders.

  • Self-starter with a positive attitude who takes initiative to learn, ask questions, and recommend ways to improve existing processes.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Strong Procurement understanding across various raw material and service categories.

  • Strong understanding of risk management requirements to ensure a robust supply chain.

  • Familiarity with supplier audit and certification requirements; preferably knowledge of ISO-9001 & IATF -16949, VDA and MMOG.

  • Knowledge and experience with APQP concepts and methodologies including FMEA, quality control planning, error-proofing, PPAP, SPC, MSA.

  • Ability to generate accurate and timely reports to support business needs.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills.

  • Ability to travel internationally as high as 25% of time.
