Job Description:

About SNAP-Ed and FNP
SNAP-Ed (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Education) is a federally funded grant program that teaches people how to eat healthy on a budget and be more physically active to reduce the risk of obesity and chronic disease.
Our programming is focused on youth from pre-k through high school, where 50% or more students receive free or reduced meals or are otherwise considered eligible.
FNP has been providing SNAP-Ed in Florida since 1996.
About the Opportunity
Nutrition Educators (NEs) use standardized curriculum materials based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans to teach food and nutrition-related subject matter (physical activity, food safety, healthy eating practices) to youth audiences in a group setting.
Programming may be one-time lessons or a series and include activities such as food demonstrations and taste tests, gardening, soccer, and other hands-on learning. Most classes are face-to-face, with occasional virtual programming.
Travel to local programming sites in a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement paid). Sites can include schools, summer food service programs, community centers, recreation programs, afterschool programs, and early childhood education centers.
Actively recruit new partners and foster existing relationships, with a goal of reaching participants and expanding programming. NEs take ownership of their calendar, using strategy and planning to ensure a full schedule.
Collaborate locally, regionally, and statewide with partners and colleagues. Projects include school gardens, lunchroom initiatives, and other interventions that create healthy policies, systems, and environments for our communities.
Capture impact and tell the FNP story through reporting, survey collection, and success narratives.
Receive orientation and ongoing training on foundational nutrition, teaching methods, recruitment strategies, and related professional topics. NEs become certified in food safety and complete the National Nutrition Certification Program. Regular training will take place in group and independent settings, in person and online.
