As an ML QA Manager, you will be responsible for managing a team of ML QA engineers dedicated to evaluating the performance and quality of machine learning models used in our photo and video editing features. You will play a critical role in maintaining the high standards of our products by developing and implementing robust testing frameworks, leading testing efforts, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams. This role requires a deep understanding of machine learning, quality assurance, and leadership skills to drive the team towards excellence.

Description

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of machine learning, quality assurance, and leadership skills to drive the team towards excellence. You will be responsible for managing a team of ML QA engineers dedicated to evaluating the quality of machine learning models used in our photo and video editing features. You will be responsible for planning and driving execution of testing for multiple simultaneous development initiatives. Your ability to work closely with development teams, to identify and understand key features and their underlying functionality, will be the key to your success. Your experience with video and/or photo editing will help you to produce a clear and concise picture of product quality for the project, from concept to product release. You will be working closely with other QA and engineering team members to help coordinate cross-functional test efforts. Your capacity for defining, hiring, and developing a world-class QA team is vital. Your ongoing curiosity and commitment to self-education in video and/or image technologies as well as new testing techniques is what will set you apart.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Significant management experience as a Software Quality Assurance Manager in an ML-focused environment.

  • Established pattern of building strong teams – attracting, hiring, motivating, and retaining the best engineers.

  • Solid understanding of NLP and LLM's, machine learning concepts, algorithms, and model evaluation techniques.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex ML models and identify potential issues.

  • Proficient at balancing multiple efforts simultaneously and meeting strict deadlines.

  • Persistent and inquisitive problem solver, committed to driving quality forward.

Key Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ideally 5+ years as a Software Quality Assurance Manager.

  • Understanding of generative AI and experience in using Gen AI for various applications

  • Proficient in Python and/or Swift or comparable languages.

  • Preferred understanding of photography, video, and in-depth knowledge of image processing algorithms and related statistical metrics.

  • iOS and macOS familiarity.

  • Understanding of subjective/objective image and video quality evaluation, and color science concepts is a strong plus.

  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $190,700 and $329,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
