Indian Health Service Risk Management Coordinator in Crownpoint, New Mexico

Summary This position is located in the Division of Quality Management at Crownpoint Service Unit, Crownpoint, New Mexico. The facility provides emergent, preventative, acute, and referral services to Indian Health Service (IHS) eligible beneficiaries. The purpose of the position is to maintain Joint Commission survey readiness, risk management, and organization compliance of regulatory conventions. Responsibilities Develops, implements, monitors, evaluates, and coordinates the Service Unit's Risk Management Plan and policies and procedures. Investigates potential compensatory events from collected information and provides specific recommendations for evaluation and need for further escalation of the information to Executive Leadership. Performs risk assessments and root cause analysis and action plans. Establishes outside review, data collection such as conduct interviews, extensive literature research, identify best practices for comparative analysis and identify procedural gaps that lead to real or potential problems for the hospital's operations of patient care delivery. Analyzes data collected on adverse events, near misses, patient complaints, and potentially unsafe condition; providing feedback to providers and staff, and using this data to facilitate systems improvements to reduce the probability of occurrence of future related events. Monitors and evaluates the quality of patient care, continuous improvement of patient care and support of service unit strategic plan. Responds to crisis situations that have risk management implications to assist staff. Adheres to guidelines for Indian Health Service, Joint Commission, and other accreditation standards, policies, procedures, and regulations applicable to hospital self-assessment risk management programs. Serves on the hospital wide committees. Assesses organization compliance with regulatory policies and procedures and is a consultant for risk management issues on these committees Conducts or participates with other department heads in the orientation of employees concerning the Risk Management program utilized by the service unit. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: I have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service performing work that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples of specialized experience include: leading multidisciplinary teams and groups addressing the investigation of healthcare errors and development of corrective plans; informing executive management of incidents with Administrative Tort Claims potential; providing feedback to managers at all levels of a healthcare operation to eliminate risks; & maintaining risk management statistics and case files, ensuring maximum confidentiality. OR GS11: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized.
