Description of Work

Salary Grade: NC11 / Recruitment Range $42,464.00 - $74,313.00.

This position will serve as an Engineering Technician III within the District 2 Permitting Unit. T his position will be responsible for the processing and review of driveway permits, site plans, utility and non-utility encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions/abandonments. This position will perform on-site inspections for compliance to NCDOT specifications for driveway permits, encroachments and subdivisions. Employee will conduct pre-construction meetings with requesting parties. This position will perform field inspections and prepare deficiency letters as it relates to road additions, driveway permits and encroachments. This position will meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies and procedures, answer questions, and address complaints from the general public by telephone, written correspondence, or in person. This position will assist the Division as needed during emergencies and inclement weather. This position will also assist the District Engineer with other tasks as assigned. Duties involve operating a state-owned vehicle in the daily performance of duties . Safety toe shoes will be needed.

  • Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision

  • Computer experience including office software and drafting software

  • Experience reading and interpreting construction plans, contract provisions, specifications and procedures

  • Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems

  • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
