Robert Half Finance & Accounting is working with a company looking to fill a Cost Accountant position in the Council Bluffs, Iowa area. This is a full-time, permanent salaried position that allows for hybrid/remote work capabilities on week-to-week basis. The successful candidate will be a key member of our Accounting & Finance team, facilitating and managing the operation of GAAP financial reporting, month-end close activities, SAP cost accounting systems and procedures, as well as assisting in the creation and execution of product cost estimates among other key activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Facilitate and manage the operation of the SAP cost accounting systems and procedures

• Aid in the creation and execution of product cost estimates

• Manage the production order process, its close and analysis

• Maintain and manage inventory quantities, valuations, transfers and reconciliations

• Perform period end closing duties including SAP closing, accruals, preparing journal entries, G/L reconciliations, cost center reporting and communicating on a granular level

• Assist the Cost Accounting Manager in the preparation of the Plant Budget, financial analysis as well as contributing to both internal and external financial reporting requirements

• Reconciliation and audit of physical inventory for various locations; record corrections and maintain audit documentation with approvals for CLS, consignment and subcontractors

• Oversee, analyze, and report on the inventory cycle count program

• Perform month end closing duties, including work order costing, analysis & GL spending to budget review at a granular level, prepare variance analysis, account reconciliations and analytical reviews of company accounts to ensure the accuracy and validity of transactions

• Provide plant operational reporting, including plant labor and overhead absorption variances, PPV, adjustments, and other analysis of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Provide support to the budget and forecasting process

Requirements

Requirements & Desired Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business related field

• 1-3+ years of experience in a Manufacturing/Production industry setting preferred, but any adjacent experience working with cost tracking/reporting/projections in any capacity a plus

• 2-5+ years of progressive general ledger accounting experience desired, but all experience levels encouraged to apply

• Experience working with SAP or other full-scale ERP systems a plus

• Strong Excel and overall technology skills required

• Ability to work in a remote/hybrid work setting and able to perform duties independently from afar

• Must have prior experience working with month-end close/GAAP financial reporting preparation processes

• Standard Costing experience in a Manufacturing/Production setting highly desired, but not a requirement if having dealt with prior costing-adjacent work through cost tracking/estimates/projections, etc. in unrelated industries
