LUMBER INSPECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

REPORTS TO: AREA SUPERVISOR POSITION: HOURLY NON-EXEMPT

Description:
We are seeking a diligent and experienced Lumber Inspector to join our team. The Lumber Inspector will be responsible for examining and grading lumber, ensuring that all wood products meet our quality standards. This role is critical to maintaining our reputation for high-quality lumber and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities: Inspect and Grade Lumber: Examine lumber for defects, including knots, splits, and warping. Grade lumber according to industry standards and company guidelines. Measure dimensions of lumber to ensure they meet specifications. Familiar with the NHLA grading chart. Quality Assurance: Ensure all lumber products meet or exceed quality standards. Identify and segregate defective or substandard pieces. Document inspection results and maintain accurate records. Compliance: Adhere to all safety and quality protocols. Stay updated with industry standards and best practices. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and sustainable practices. Collaboration: Work closely with the production team to address quality issues. Communicate effectively with supervisors and other inspectors. Provide feedback and suggestions for process improvements. Equipment Maintenance: Maintain inspection tools and equipment in good working condition. Report any equipment malfunctions or needs for repair.

Safety: Requires personal protective equipment be worn safety glasses, hearing protection head protection, steel toed work boots and other protective equipment as required.

Skills Required:
Candidates must be 18 years of age or older. Previous experience as a lumber inspector or in a similar role. Strong understanding of lumber grading standards and procedures. Keen attention to detail and excellent observational skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks. Capable of lifting and moving lumber pieces as needed. Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects 50+lbs.

Education and Experience:

High school Diploma or equivalent; additional training or certification in lumber inspection is a plus.
