Commander, Navy Installations FIREFIGHTER (BLS/HAZMAT) in Corpus Christi, Texas

Summary This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Responsibilities You will determine causes of basic medical implications (e.g., closed and open soft tissue wounds) to apply bandages to the patient. You will employ hazardous materials response procedures and equipment to mitigate hazardous materials in incidents. You will direct a crew in cleaning and maintaining fire vehicles, quarters, and equipment (e.g., cleaning, repairing, washing, testing hoses, pumpers). You will drive a firefighting vehicle (e.g., pumper, aerial ladder truck, hazmat truck) to the scene of a fire. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Identifying active and potential fire hazards and providing structural firefighting IAW the Job Performance Requirements of the current edition of NFPA 1001; 2) Employing hazard and risk assessment techniques to complete incident analysis and effectively mitigate hazardous materials emergencies at the Operations level; 3) Providing emergency medical care at the BLS level to the full range of medical and trauma patients including managing respiratory and cardiac emergencies to include performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bag-valve-mask resuscitation, and automatic external defibrillation (AED); 4) Performingdriver/operator level maintenance and inspections and operating a variety of complex firefighting equipment including pumpers and/or aerial vehicles; and 5) Completing a variety of record keeping tasks using paper and computer based systems including patient care reports, equipment testing and maintenance records, NFIRS reports, vehicle and equipment inspection forms, pre-fire plans, etc. NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for the position Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0000/fire-protection-and-prevention-series-0081/ Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I and II and HAZMAT Technician. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. Also requires National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) The following certification, if not already held, must be obtained within 12 months of hire as mandatory condition of position: Driver/Operator-Pumper, Apparatus Driver/Operator Aerial, and Driver Operator ARFF. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. The employee is required to work a 72-hour week on a 48-hour on/72-hour off basis that includes weekends and holidays. May be subject to recall. Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
