HANAC, Inc. Family Development Coach in Corona, New York

HANAC, Inc. – originally founded by George Douris as the Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee – is a New York City-based multi-faceted social services organization. The organization was founded in 1972 to serve the needs of vulnerable populations throughout New York City. 

The  Family Development Coach  evaluates and works closely with the client, by identifying problems and creating a plan for services to help the client solve these problems. This process which includes evaluating the client’s support system, environment, and values—is tailored to each individual’s needs. The Family Development Coach  helps every client make good decisions, find resources to overcome problems and inspire the client to make improvements in their life.     

Hourly pay: $30.00 per hour (15 hours per week)

Work Schedule: Mondays 5:00 PM- 8:00 PM and Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays: 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM (Part Time Seasonal Position from September to June)

Location:   P.S.19; 40-10 99 Street Corona, N.Y. 11368 (Must be available to work in person)

Bilingual English/Spanish a Must

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • To provide case management and education/career counseling to the students.

  • To work with each student to identify interests and strengths.

  • To work with each student to develop an Individual Service Plan (ISP) listing:

  • At least two (2) contextualized literacy and educational/ career goals, with specific action steps required to meet each goal.

  • Supportive services, benefits, and resources needed with specific action steps taken to assist with any necessary referrals if needed.

  • To help the students develop skills to improve study habits, social skills and time management.

  • To interact with the students on an on-going basis, be able to demonstrate positive impacts of counseling on attendance, retention and academic achievement addressing students’. needs documenting each interaction with a student in DYCD’s Participant Tracking System.

  • To provide assistance to the students in navigating the technologies required to attend classes.

    Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related field and experience working with City systems such as public assistance, child welfare, education and housing: or

  • An Associate’s Degree and completion of the Family Development Training (or other credentials identified by DYCD) and experience working with City systems such as public assistance, child welfare, education and housing: or

  • At least three (3) years successful experience in providing case management/counseling and working with city systems such as public assistance, child welfare, education and housing.

  • Empathetic and compassionate to the needs of others.

  • Good organizational, time management skills and meticulous record keeping.

  • Knowledge of programs and services offered within HANAC and community resources with our partner social service agencies.

  • Must be comfortable working with diverse populations.
