Naval Sea Systems Command MAIL ASSISTANT in Corona, California

Summary You will serve as a Mail Assistant at the Consolidated Mail Facility (CMF) in the Material Management Department of the Naval Sea Logistics Center (NSLC) NAVSEALOGCENKYPTDIVNUWC MECH PA in Corona, CA. Responsibilities You will receive, sort, collect, meter postage, process, deliver, and direct the distribution of incoming and outgoing U.S. Mail, Messenger Mail, DOD/DON Inter-Agency and Messenger Mail and provides services for all consolidated mail programs. You will determine the correct organizational segment to which mail is addressed and distributes into principal classifications by Identification Mail Code numbers, Zip Codes, locations or similar routing instructions. You will operate electronic/automated high volume mail processing equipment, electronic postage metering systems, electronic decision-making scales, and other postal and mail center equipment. You will record, control, sort, process, deliver/receive, and dispatch incoming and outgoing Accountable Mail (Registered, Certified, Insured, and Return Receipt for Merchandise), Special Handling, Express Mail, and classified materials. You will obtain receipts and authorized signatures for all accountable and special handling mail. You will be responsible to hold random checks to ensure that personnel signing for Accountable Mail have the proper clearance and card indicating the level of mail they can receipt for. You will ensure all incoming and outgoing mail is in adherence with all United State Postal Service (USPS), DOD/DON, regulations, policies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Postal Affairs and other applicable guidelines and laws. You will ensure that mail is delivered and picked to/from authorized addresses, agents and serving mail or postal activities, and that mail matter is not delayed, intercepted, opened, rifled, seized or confiscated. You will examine all mail material for evidence of tampering, damage, compliance with packing and labeling requirements. You will maintain close surveillance for suspected harmful mail items, security violations, unusual and abnormal mail conditions, and reports all postal offenses to higher authority. You will maintain logs with validating signatures for all locations and activities on scheduled routes. You will operate various class (C) vehicles, to collect, pick-up, deliver and dispatch all U.S. Mail, Messenger Mail, and Inter-agency Mail using established scheduled routes and special mail runs to and from DOD/DON commands and USPS facilities. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: utilizing a computer filing systems to process incoming and outgoing mail in accordance with agency requirements to facilitate organizational procedures for mail and improve efficiency. Examples of experience include: verifying and receiving mail; using automated systems; assisting customers; processing, handling, collecting, sorting, and delivery of mail.
