University of Miami Pre-College offers both credit and non-credit summer programs for high school students seeking to gain college experience before graduating from high school. Upon completion, participants feel better prepared for the undergraduate admission process and gain confidence in their academic choices and ability to succeed in college.Pre-College programs include the Summer Scholars three-week credit program and UM Academies two- week, non-credit program for high school students (rising sophomores, juniors, and rising seniors).Combined, the programs host approximately 700 students, of which approximately 600 are residential.With health, safety, and wellbeing as our priority, we strive to provide an inclusive authentic campus experience for our pre-college students – filled with stimulating academics, engaging programming, and unique weekend excursions.Program Coordinator, University of Miami Pre-College (2 positions)Community Assistants will join the University of Miami Pre-College team, which is responsible for administering the Summer Scholars three-week credit program and UM Academies two-week non-credit program. As an integral member of the Pre-College leadership team, Program Coordinators will report to the Pre-College Assistant Area Directors and assist in the day-to-day management and programming of the residential program.This opportunity provides the person in this role with invaluable real-world, hands-on work experience. Experience in residential life, student affairs, collaborative project management, and supporting students from diverse backgrounds align well with this role. We are seeking candidates who are dynamic, enjoy mentoring staff and students, and foster a positive inclusive campus environment. University of Miami Pre-College seeks two Pre-College Community Assistants for Summer 2024.•1 position open for the Summer Scholars Program: June 23 to July 19 (4 weeks)•1 position open for the Summer Scholars Program: June 23 to July 12 (3 weeks)•POSITION DESCRIPTION:•Mentor Pre-College Students - A CA can offer valuable insight on the transition between high school and college because they have been through this stage. CAs are role models and an example of how college students should conduct themselves.•Residence Hall Supervisor and Disciplinarian – CAs are employed by the University of Miami. CAs must enforce all policies and refer students who break these rules for disciplinary action. CAs will have duty nights in the residence hall and mediate minor conflicts that may arise.•Community Builder - Living in the residence hall can be one of the most enriching experiences a student can have during their college career. CAs develop a sense of community in the residence hall and among the students. This means that each CA actively promotes a welcoming environment that is inclusive of all students’ mental, emotional, or physical characteristics. CAs are required to chaperone and attend Pre-College activities, as well as plan at least two educational/social programs during the two-week period.Student ConductoBe knowledgeable on and enforce University of Miami Pre-college and UM Student code of conduct. Document all incidents in a responsible and timely manner, providing the appropriate written(Incident Reports) and verbal behavioral data relevant to administering guidance and discipline in response to these incidents.oAssist with the residential disciplinary conduct adjudication process including, but not limited to, ensuring due process, meeting with students, assigning level appropriate informal resolutions, student follow-ups, policy violation documentation, and tracking of such by maintaining accurate student conduct records.oRespond quickly to emergencies and crisis situations, including managing instances involving various health/medical, behavioral, or other safety-related circumstances.Student Life ProgrammingoParticipate and provide evening and weekend student residence life programs, activities, and events; Chaperon field trips as neededoClerical support as neededoBe knowledgeable of campus resources and provide information when neededoMentoring Summer Scholars participantsoOther duties as assignedAdditional InformationoNight and weekend work requiredoReports to the Pre-College Assistant Area Directors, Area Director, Assistant Dean, and collaborates with Pre-college office staffoPerform other job-related duties as assigned
