GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The responsibilities include assuming a primary role in the assessment, referral, intervention, and case management of various student issues, including health and mental health emergencies.

The Case Manager (Licensed)/Student Liaison (CML/SL) reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students with an indirect reporting relationship to the Associate Dean of Students and Social Worker. The CML/SL may receive referrals from any University community members.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Case Manager (Licensed)/Student Liaison (CML/SL) is a member of the Dean of Students Office (DOSO) staff and provides consultation and advisement on student mental health-related matters. The CML/SL is a DOSO liaison to the Counseling Center, Student Health Center, and the Office of the Ombudsperson and receives case management referrals from these and other offices and individuals. CML/SL works to assist in the resolution of student queries and concerns regarding physical, mental, social, familial, academic, disciplinary, economic, and other areas affecting their matriculation at the University by providing a range of support and clinical intervention services. The CML/SL interacts regularly with parents, mental health professionals, hospitals and social service agencies, and various members of the University community.

Case Management (60%)

  • Assist the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students and Associate Dean/Social Worker in addressing parental questions and concerns

  • Manage and provide crisis intervention services that may arise in the course of regular working hours to manage or assist University personnel in addressing student crises

  • Perform psycho/social evaluations in an effort to determine students’ needs, create and execute intervention plans designed to minimize and/or resolve student issues

  • Conduct short term counseling and provide continuity of care until student is referred and linked with appropriate services and continue to provide case management services as needed

  • Facilitate, coordinate and/or initiate psychiatric hospitalizations when appropriate and/or follow through with discharge planning

  • Provide referrals to university and community agencies

  • Communicate and coordinate with parents, University personnel, hospitals, and other professionals to address student needs and provide continuity of care to students

  • Provide consultation, advisement, and resources to the University community, parents, providers, and other stakeholder on student mental health related matters

  • Provide support and guidance to University Troubleshooters in matters pertaining to case management maintenance and access to records, when appropriate

  • Contact and collaborate with other University departments

  • Collect, evaluate, and record all facts pertaining to student cases

  • Maintain factual case records and prepare necessary statistical reports

  • Report case updates to and receive case supervision from Associate Dean and Social Worker

  • Prepare monthly reports

Dean of Students Office (20%)

  • Serve on Student Affairs Crisis Coordinators (SACC) rotation - assume duty on 24-hour crisis response roster as needed

  • Serve on the Student Assessment Committee (SAC) and prepare minutes and relevant letter and communicate decisions with student, parent, University Departments, or other entities

  • Provide support for intake related to Title IX situations to include sexual misconduct

  • Follow-up with Student Assessment Committee cases and ensure student compliance with requirements

  • Perform other general or specific duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students and/or the Associate Dean of Students and Social Worker

  • Initiate parental contact when appropriate

  • Assume the role of Associate Dean/Social Worker when needed due to absence

Student Liaison (10%)

  • Interpret University policy when student challenges surface and make recommendations on policy changes as deemed appropriate

  • Educate the University community on social and developmental trends and occurrences that have the tendency or likelihood of affecting the student population

  • Serve as liaison to Housing and Residential Life for on-campus housing-related matters

General (10%)

  • Participate in campus activities within the Division of Student Affairs (Orientation, Leadership Programs, Homecoming, Convocation, etc.)

  • Serve on Student Affairs or University committees as assigned or requested

  • Perform other general or specific duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES (KSA):

  • Licensed clinical social worker or licensed mental health counselor

  • Knowledge of behavior health

  • Strong administrative and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communications skills

  • Very organized and detail-oriented

  • Excels in a fast-paced environment

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or related field

  • Licensed clinical social worker or licensed mental health counselor

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 3 years full-time professional experience required; higher education experience preferred
