Job Summary:

As Regulatory Compliance Counsel, you will lead the review, analysis and interpretation of legislation and regulatory sources, assessing the applicability and impact to Acuity Brands, Inc., including each of its business segments. You will also partner with internal business partners to effectively provide regulatory guidance and expertise, while helping ensure successful implementation of any requirements.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Monitor, track, and keep abreast of all (federal, state, local, and international) proposed, pending, and existing laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to the company, including in the areas of compliance, product, financial reporting, technology, communications, and ESG

  • Analyze and interpret new and updated laws and regulations to advise the business on any impacts

  • Partner with key business owners to validate policies, procedures, and processes are developed, designed and implemented in accordance with relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines, as well as, ensure those policies, procedures, and processes are effective

  • Assess applicable regulations and identify any risks for new corporate initiatives and products

  • Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues on advocacy strategies for engaging with regulators and policymakers, assessing policy and legislative measures, drafting position papers and when applicable, participating in such advocacy efforts

  • Assist in due diligence of potential acquisitions and potential remediation/integration activities after acquisition

Skills, Education and Experience (Required to Perform Essential Functions):

  • Ability to provide thoughtful and clear guidance to a variety of stakeholders, translating complex information into practical guidance

  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships at all levels and departments in ways that enhance understanding, respect, cooperation, and problem solving

  • Ability to prioritize while managing conflicting demands from multiple stakeholders

  • Ability to encourage innovative thinking and practical solutions to issues or problems

  • Willingness to work collaboratively across multiple functions with a high degree of engagement and contribution

  • High level of interpersonal skills, mature judgment, emotional intelligence, and independent thinking

Education (minimum education required):

  • J.D. from accredited US law school or international equivalent

Experience (minimum experience required):

6 to 8 years

The range for this position is $121,700.00 to $250,700.00. Placement within this range may vary, depending on the applicant’s experience and geographic location.
