Description
Georgia Military College is accepting applications for a full-time Senior Department Chair/Assistant Professor in the discipline ofEnglish. GMC operates on an accelerated quarter system offering five terms per year. This is a full-time, annually renewable Senior Department Chair/Faculty position with a teaching load of 36-40 credit hours per academic year (Quarter 1: August to October, Quarter 2: October to December, Quarter 3: January to March and Quarter 4: March to May). The contract period is for twelve months. Due to the academic administrative duties of the position, the Senior Department Chair must maintain a presence at the satellite location throughout the summer term. Teaching is not required during the summer term, but SDCs who teach in the summer are compensated additionally in accordance with the adjunct faculty pay scale. The position may require teaching courses in a variety of instructional modalities (In-seat, Hybrid, and Remote Learning) as well as evening and/or weekend teaching assignments in order to meet the needs of non-traditional students at the Stone Mountain satellite location. The ideal candidate will carry the graduate-level coursework/credentials to teach all English courses offered in the GMC curriculum. Salary will be determined as per GMC's salary guidelines for this position.
This position will serve as Senior Department Chair (SDC) for the Rockdale, Madison, and Dublin satellite locations and maintain physical office space at any of the three listed locations.This SDC position will be responsible for academic excellence among all faculty at those satellite locations. To accomplish this goal, they will hire, train, and evaluate adjunct faculty for those satellite locations. In addition, the SDC is responsible for ensuring all institutional, division, and assessment reporting is done each term among the faculty at those satellite locations. The SDC is responsible for daily and term academic operations on the aforementioned satellite locations, including course scheduling, faculty appointments, answering student requests, troubleshooting issues that arise at the satellite locations, leading satellite location faculty, supervising two Department Chairs, conducting classroom observations and adjudicating academic appeals and requests. In addition, the SDC will work with the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs (AVPAA) to develop the course schedules for those satellite locations each quarter and will assist the AVPAA in developing and implementing policies focused on student success and retention, with a particular focus on reducing failure and withdrawal rates. This position will report to the AVPAA for the northern Georgia satellite locations of GMC. The review process will commence immediately and continue until this position is filled.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree inEnglishOR Master's degree (in any field) AND 18 graduate level semester hours/30 graduate level quarter hours in English.
Minimum of 1-2 years of teaching experience.
Ability to manage course records such as Class Attendance, Student Grades, and posting of Course Syllabi in the Moodle learning management system.
Willingness to serve the college via committee work and student organization advising.
Applicant must be willing to teach day, evening, and/or weekend courses as well as Dual Enrollment courses. Contracts are for up to 12 months; renewable upon the availability of classes and satisfactory job performance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching freshman and sophomore levelEnglishcourses; experience teaching in a community college environment is preferred.
2 or more years of prior experience leading, mentoring, and developing Faculty.
A Master's Degree is required and a Ph.D. is preferred.
Willingness to take initiative as well as seek continued opportunities to develop/grow professionally and as a leader.
Candidates with leadership potential are preferred.
