Position Summary

The University of Central Arkansas Archives at Torreyson Library of the University of Central Arkansas seeks a highly motivated, detail-oriented, highly organized, and flexible individual to support a team of dedicated professionals who promote accessibility of archival collections for students, community members, and researchers. Under the direction of the Head of Special Collections, this person will be responsible for processing archival collections in compliance with current archival best practices, creating archival metadata, and assisting with archival reference. As the Saturday reference archivist, the position performs public service duties, answers patron inquiries, and oversees collection security during reference appointments. The schedule for this position is Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 am-6:00 pm, and Saturday 9:30 am 5:30 pm. During holidays and academic breaks, this schedule may change.

This position reports to the Head of Special Collections.

This will be a library staff appointment. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Arranges archival collections for accessibility using professional best practices
  • Arranges, describes, and preserves different archival formats including but not limited to paper, film-based materials, and digital media
  • Provides reference assistance through archival reading room desk shifts, and Saturday archival reading room shifts
  • Participates in finding aid creation
  • Brings large archival processing projects to a timely conclusion
  • Assists other library departments as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Education and/or Experience

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma, and prior archival experience is required. Preferred Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelors degree, preferably in history or related field
  • Knowledge of the history of the state of Arkansas
