The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for helping us design, integrate and verify key technologies on world-class, state-of-the-art analytical instruments. In this capacity, the incumbent will be part of a high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams participating in all phases of product development, including product commercialization and concept realization with our engineering and scientific community. The individual will solve problems through collaboration with multiple engineering disciplines, while following established guidelines, procedures and design practices.

This position is part of the Hardware Product Development team and will be located in Concord, Ontario (hybrid).

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop and design mechanical parts and subassemblies for integration into Mass Spectrometers for future and current products.

  • Assist or lead the build of prototype assemblies to test functionality, analyze the ease of assembly, troubleshoot as necessary and summarize results.

  • Deliver design solutions, CAD models, detailed GD&T drawings, tolerance analyses and engineering documentation consistent with guidelines.

  • Collaborate with engineering, research scientists, product development teams and project managers to develop theoretical concepts into functional prototypes as part of the product development process.

  • Provide technical support for released products to improve manufacturing yield, field reliability, product cost.

    The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Mechanical Engineering University Degree (or similar discipline)

  • Minimum of 7 or more years of design experience.

  • A candidate with an interest in physics, or life science technology would be an asset.

  • Experience with product design with an emphasis on product cost, product reliability and design for manufacturability would be an asset.
