JOB SUMMARY:

As Senior Director, Sustainability and Governance, Select and Premium Brands, this individual will function as a brand expert with focus on strategic direction, analyzation of data, project management and continuous improvement of sustainability programming in support of these two brand segments.

This role will be responsible for adapting and embedding Marriott’s sustainability and CAP efforts into Premium and Select segments development, standards, and operations. The Senior Director will identify and develop critical sustainable practices across the Premium and Select brand portfolio to assist in positioning our brands as ESG leaders and encourage deeper customer engagement.

As part of the brand team this role will provide deep discipline expertise, advice, and connectivity to ensure best practice sharing across the Brand organization. The Senior Director will champion cross-brand connectivity by leading and working through key stakeholders and subject matter experts and will partner on sustainability projects, representing the Premium and Select Brand perspective. They will support the short and long-term strategies for the company, collaborating across functions to enhance brand positioning through sustainability awareness and activations relevant to each brand/segment.

This role will champion sustainability efforts in marketing communications to amplify external messages in an authentic and effective manner, drive internal culture to ensures an ESG-oriented lens on all projects, elevating the importance of this topic across brands and segments, and will spear head efforts to develop, gain alignment and measure ESG-specific success metrics / KPIs to demonstrate performance and improvement over time.

Core partners for this role will include Brand teams, Brand Operations, Global Quality, and Sustainability.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

Required:

  • 4-year bachelor's degree from an accredited university with a major/focus on Science or Social Science, Business Administration, Hospitality, or related major; OR related work experience.

  • 6+ years of experience in sustainability, hospitality, or business consulting

  • Demonstrated problem solving and strategy expertise (e.g., structuring and analyzing ambiguous problems, independently conducting analyses driving implications from complex data)

  • Strong analytical skills – able to analyze and interpret complex data sets from a variety of internal and external sources, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions

  • Demonstrated ability to shape data-driven narratives about customer and brand opportunities

  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams, using data and insights to influence decision making.

  • Experience converting business needs into technology requirements and working with technology to manage the execution of projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.

  • Strong project management and time management skills.

  • Exceptional skills in Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Experience with Smartsheet, Power BI, Tableau, and other data platforms.

  • Expertise with data analysis tools such as SQL, Python or R, preferred

  • Expertise and proven track record in managing complex, multifunctional initiatives

  • Experience in implementing global strategy in a complex organization

  • Experience in planning, executing, and delivering projects on time and on budget

  • Exceptional communicator, both written and verbal

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time

  • Strong knowledge of the competitive landscape and must be able to remain current with industry trends and connected in discipline-related forums

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

Program Implementation:

  • In partnership with leaders, Global Sustainability team, and aligned with the company’s sustainability strategy, develop the Premium + Select Brand’s sustainability implementation plans to meet internal and external stakeholder needs and achieve the company’s sustainability goals

  • Function as the brand ambassador of sustainability, effectively communicating the brand’s vision and mission to internal and external stakeholders

  • Develop and deliver brand-specific sustainability education & awareness tools, resources, and trainings

  • Analyze trends and competitive brand landscape

  • Build, maintain and protect Marriott’s brand equity and reputation among key partners

Communications

  • Prepare brand leaders with Serve 360 and sustainability talking points, anticipated questions, and supporting documents

  • Manage sustainability content sharing internally

  • Participate in brand-based trade shows and conferences around the world

Programs & Partnerships:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert and thought leader on projects to champion sustainability programming

  • Manage the brand’s sustainability brand standards and associated compliance mechanisms

  • Partner with key teams to drive the portfolio towards third-party sustainability certifications

  • Partner with Discipline teams in the deployment of programming to ensure alignment with and achievement of sustainability goals

  • Partner with Avendra, MIP, and other contracting organizations within Marriott, to support the integration of responsible sourcing principles and goals

  • Partner with Continents on regional sustainability programming to drive progress towards the company’s sustainability goals

  • Establish standardization wherever possible across all business units to assure consistency and accuracy

Lead competitive intelligence and brand landscaping efforts

  • Drive competitive intelligence/brand research roadmap

  • Develop insights on brand positioning, particularly for Marriott International’s Premium brands

  • Deliver high-quality strategic perspectives on competitor brands

Drive commercial and operational insights & strategy development

  • Work alongside Revenue Management to build and manage a comprehensive dashboard for each brand

  • Collaborate with Global Design to develop and manage renovation dashboards

  • Work alongside Global Operations to gauge performance in food and beverage, guest experience and other areas

  • Develop and leverage insights to craft pragmatic strategies to drive improvements

Washington, D.C. Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $139,796 to $256,293 annually.

In addition to the annual salary, the position will be eligible to receive an annual bonus and restricted stock units/stock grants.
