PART TIME COMMERCIAL LICENSE EXAMINER (Licensing Examiner II)

The pay range for this position is$19.96 -$26.41 per hour

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division of Motor Vehicles, has a part-time vacancy for Licensing Examiner II, SOC Title 13-1040 COMPLIANCE OFFICERS-2. This is a part-time position and cannot exceed 29.5 hours per week and does not offer health insurance benefits.

SUMMARY:Administer a variety of tests and driving skill examinations to applicant to ensure that only qualified individuals are issued commercial vehicle driver licenses, and school bus driver licenses. Reviews applicant information for consistency with applicable motor vehicle laws, administrative rules and Federal Motor Carrier regulations, to ensure that applicants are eligible to apply for and receive a New Hampshire commercial motor vehicle driver license or other official document.

1.5 Years or 18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associate's Degree

3 Years or 36 Months of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's Degree

4.5 Years or 54 Months of additional relevant experience = Master's Degree

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:Associate's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with major study in auto mechanics, business management or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience:Three years of experience in instruction, training, customer service, driving work or related field. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education at the Associate's level only.

License/Certification:

  1. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) and Motorcycle License within six (6) months of hire. Licenses must be free of motor vehicle violations that are determined by the Director of Motor Vehicles to be disqualifying.

  2. Must maintain Defensive Driving Certification.

  3. Must successfully complete the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) Driver Licensing Examiner Certification Program and the AAMVA Commercial Driver Examiner Certification within twelve (12) months of hire, or as scheduled.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment.

  2. Selected candidate will undergo a fingerprint based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information.

  3. Must successfully complete all aspects of an intensive multi-week training program of classroom and on the job training within the first six (6) months of employment.

  4. Must be willing to attend additional training sessions to expand and maintain knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Regulations and Driver's License regulations.

  5. Position requires travel throughout the state and work at various satellite offices and testing locations, as well as work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.

  6. May be required to work a flexible schedule including, but not limited to, early morning, evening, and/or weekend hours.

  7. Must wear seatbelt during all driving skills examinations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides first rate customer service by administering drivin skills examinations, through applicant on andoff roadperformance tests in commercial vehicles, tractor trailers, and school buses, to ensure adequate driving ability prior to issuing a commercial motor vehicle driver license.

Qualifies or disqualifies applicants for a commercial motor vehicle driver license based on results of driving skills examinations.Records pertinent information about the examinations and prepares andsubmitsreports of commercial motor vehicle licensing activities, in theappropriate format.

Ensuresthat the applicants have a basic understanding of commercial motor vehicles through administering the pre-trip inspections of the commercialvehicles beingutilizedfor the driving skills examinations.

Ensuresthat applicants have completed and passed the required knowledge examinations and have a basic understanding of New Hampshire motor vehicle laws, commercial motor vehicle laws, and the Federal Motor Carrier regulations, prior to administering the road skills examinations.

Represents the Division of Motor Vehicles at administrative hearings as assigned, including gathering of evidence, communicating with other departments,bureausand attorneys, and tracking of applicants progress and compliance of hearing mandates.

Answers questions from thegeneral publicregardingNew Hampshire motor vehicle laws, commercial motor vehicle laws, Federal Motor Carrier Regulations, driver licensing,formsand proceduresin accordance withthe Privacy Act.Answer applicant questionsregardingthe driving skills examinations.

Assistscounter personnel with applicant questions and concernsas needed.Assistsin the review ofapplicant documentation for accuracy, validity and authenticityas needed.

Provides support to the Driver Licensing Examiner I positions by administering tests and examinations for operator and motorcycle licenses, as necessary.
