Job Summary

Battelle’s Mission Focused Tools Division is seeking a mid-level experienced Embedded Software Developer to work in our Columbus, Ohio location.

Battelle Cyber Engineers solve the toughest Computer Science problems in the world. We work in small agile teams to push the bounds of computing technology. As a Software Developer at Battelle, you will spend your day designing, coding, and testing software. Our projects are non-standard, highly customized, and will push you to new levels as a software developer. Most of our software is developed in C/C++ and runs on embedded systems.

Responsibilities

• Work with customers and team members to understand project requirements and scope

• Collaborate with internal and external customers to set goals and expectations

• Translate and communicate those goals and expectations to the team

• Design/develop/modify software and firmware for custom memory constrained hardware and related systems

• Developing for real time operating systems (RTOS) and interesting embedded systems

• Research and analyze new libraries, technologies and tools

• Perform full software life cycle functions including software/firmware requirements, architecture, design, code, test, integration, and documentation.

Key Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years’ experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field of study or equivalent experience, or Master’s degree with 2+ years, or equivalent related work experience

• Strong understanding of embedded software development in C/C++ Experience automating tasks using a scripting language (Python preferred)

• Experience with formal software engineering processes.

• Exceptional technical writing and team skills.

• Experience with network protocols including TCP and UDP.

• Active Top Secret Clearance; must be SCI eligible.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree with 4+ years’ experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field of study or equivalent work experience.

• Ability to work individually and in small fast paced team environments.

• Passion and drive to constantly improve your skill set.

• Familiarity with Configuration Control and Configuration Management.

• Experience with network protocols.

• Experience emulating embedded platforms for live debugging.
