Godman Guild Association Aspire Instructor / Adult Education Instructor in Columbus, Ohio

Godman Guild's programs are for all ages and are built to provide a continuum of success and support, making it possible for participants to achieve their academic and career goals.

We are currently seeking an Adult Education Instructor basis to teach in our Aspire program. The emphasis of this position is to provide educational and transitional services for clients seeking to enhance e basic education skills, learn English as a second language, earn their High School Equivalency, pursue post-secondary opportunities, and/or obtain employment.

This is a general position that may teach in any of the content areas: Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and ESOL.

Classes are held mornings and evenings Monday though Thursday, and the instructor will be assigned to a combination of them with at least one evening per week. With paid prep time, staff and department meetings, etc this position is full time at approximately 40 hours per week to maximize work- life balance.

We are currently teaching in a hybrid model and classes may be in any combination of in person or online, and may change from time to time based on program needs

Basic Responsibilities

In order to be successful, this position requires the ability to successfully coach students to reach their potential by providing educational leadership and instruction to students in classroom, small group, individual settings, and online.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Design and implement instructional plans and materials aligned with the HSE exam content areas (e.g., Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies) and ESOL curriculum, ensuring alignment with state standards and best practices in language acquisition.
  • Develop differentiated lessons to accommodate varying learning styles and educational backgrounds.
  • Utilize instructional strategies that promote engagement, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Administer TABE, CLAS-E, and review and interpret assessment data to prescribe a program of learning for each participant.
  • Coach participants through the development and completion of short-and long-term educational goals.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment conducive to academic achievement and foster a supportive classroom culture that encourages persistence and motivation among students.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and achievement.
  • Analyze assessment data to track student growth and inform instructional decisions.
  • Participate in agency meetings and committees as assigned.
  • Assist in the development, planning and execution of special projects and events (i.e., graduations, research, events, etc.).
  • Participate in professional development and training.
  • Performing other duties as assigned that align with agency requirements.

Work Experience, Education, Skills and Knowledge

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 1 year of teaching or adult tutoring experience;
  • Passionate about adult education and dedicated to helping students achieve academic success.
  • Patient and supportive demeanor with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of HSE exam content and proficiency standards.
  • Experience teaching in a hybrid model preferred
  • Collaborative team player committed to contributing to a positive and professional work environment.
  • Requires intermediate computer skills and experience using office equipment.
  • TESOL/TEFL certification preferred
  • Adaptable and able to tailor instruction to meet the needs of individual students.
