About The Role of Vice Provost

The Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs and Dean of Undergraduate Education reports directly to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.

Essential functions of the position consist of:

Oversight of the University of South Carolina undergraduate academic experience including:

• The Carolina Core, the university’s general education program

• The University Advising Center and the four-year advising initiative

• Center for Integrated and Experiential Learning ( CIEL ), including Graduation with Leadership Distinction.

• Living-learning Communities with faculty principals

• Graduation and Retention Network ( GARNET )

• SACSCOC and CHE Accreditation and Compliance

Required Qualifications

  • Be a professor and scholar of proven excellence with a record of academic accomplishment appropriate for appointment at the rank of full professor.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence and innovation in undergraduate education, possess the ability to inspire and lead faculty, staff, and students, at a large public research university that values the quality of the undergraduate student experience.

  • Demonstrate a successful record of experience with integrated learning programs that leverage for the benefit of students many beyond-the-classroom experiences such as service learning, internships, living/learning communities, and other student engagements.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to academic advising initiatives.

  • Demonstrate a successful record of experience collaborating with student affairs and academic support units.

  • Possess interest in enhancing the undergraduate curriculum.

  • Demonstrate a successful record of experience with curriculum development and approval processes; experience with accreditation review preferred.

  • Demonstrate strong commitment to access and opportunity for all students.

  • Possess three or more years of administrative experience and leading positive change at the department, college, or university level.
