SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

* 1st Shift: Hours are 6:30am - 5:00pm, Monday-Thursday

* Weekends: Overtime Occasionally

Employees will carry out manufacturing practices in a cGMP biotechnical facility. The position entails the manual processing of porcine urinary bladders, which includes all aspects from collections of raw materials to packaging of the final product. Following training, work will be expected to be performed independently to a high degree of standard in biomaterial handling, always following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Tissue Processing Technician I is the entry level into the Tissue Processing Technician job group.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collection of raw materials

  • Rinse and initial cleaning of raw materials upon receipt

  • Separation and removal of unwanted tissues

  • Disinfection

  • Preparation of storage and cleaning solutions

  • Document and track materials and solutions

  • Process raw materials for final product including, but not limited to cutting/trimming to size, lyophilizing, and packaging

  • Perform inspections during processing as called for in SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).

  • Build, cut, package and label devices

  • Cross-train and perform duties as needed in different process areas (clean rooms, raw materials etc.)

  • Make suggestions that would improve the work environment or material processing

  • Keep track of when supplies become low or need to be purchased

  • Perform other tasks as needed

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Similar experience preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good work ethic, dependable and punctual

  • Able to work well in both group settings and independently

  • Flexible and adaptable to changing assignments

  • Working knowledge of GMP and ISO standards preferred

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Operation of specialty equipment (ex: lyophilizer, condenser, die press, etc.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Use of wrists, arms, and hands to process medical devices

  • Lifting of up to 40 lbs.

  • Standing for two hours or more; sitting for two hours or more

  • Ability to properly apply and remove sterile gowning

  • Ability to work with raw materials (porcine bladders)

ADVERSE WORKING CONDITIONS

The adverse working conditions listed in this section include, but are not limited to, those environmental conditions to which the employee may be exposed while undertaking the essential duties and responsibilities of this position, which is that of a general plant environment.

  • Clean room environment; must be able to properly gown and de-gown

  • Handling of raw materials (porcine bladder) required

  • May encounter strong odor of strong cleaning material
