This will be the top person in accounting & finance, overseeing a small team. We are looking for someone that is able to be in the office every day to help build relationships, manage the team, and drive efficiencies.

We are seeking a highly-skilled Controller that has a strong commitment to excellence, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency to play a key role in managing their accounting and financial operations. As the Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's accounting operations, financial management and reporting. The Controller will provide accurate accounting and financial reports, manage a small team to meet deadlines, and contribute to the achievement of the company's financial goals. We are looking for someone with a strong customer service approach and a process improvement mindset with goals to streamline accounting operations and provide additional efficiencies. This role requires a hands-on approach and the ability to collaborate effectively with leadership and all departments across the company.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Present senior leadership and partners with monthly financial reports

  • Direct accounting department activities, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Perform tasks associated with month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

  • Manage the creation and implementation of the budget process, as well as monthly monitoring of the annual budget and future forecasts

  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and systems to streamline processes and enhance financial reporting efficiency.

  • Manage cash flow, working capital, and treasury functions to optimize liquidity and mitigate financial risks.

  • Collaborate with project management teams to monitor project costs, revenue recognition, and profitability analysis.

  • Evaluate and implement technology solutions to enhance financial reporting capabilities and operational efficiencies.

  • Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Serve as a key liaison between finance and other departments, providing financial insights and support to cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related

  • 10+ years of progressive career experience in accounting, preferably within the construction / contracting industry

  • Strong understanding of accounting for service contract companies / construction accounting principles, including job costing, revenue recognition, and percentage of completion accounting

  • Self-starter with efficient time management and organizational skills

  • Experience with software Implementations required (i.e. NetSuite, Intacct, Dynamics a plus)

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and make strategic recommendations

  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality in financial reporting and analysis

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization up to and including partnering with senior leadership

  • Detail-oriented mindset, with a commitment to accuracy, integrity, and ethical conduct
