This is an in-person position and is not eligible for remote work. This position has an anticipated work schedule ofMonday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm with potential of working shift work and weekends,subject to change.

Responsible for the development, functionality, operation, and maintenance of communication equipment at the El Paso County Sheriff's Office (EPSO). Responsible for the maintenance of assigned department communication equipment, contracts, and budgets for fees and maintenance.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the EPSO Body Worn Camera (BWC) program including camera phones, routers, and providing upgrades and software support.

  • Acts as subject matter expert for department communication equipment; coordinates and provides training to users.

  • Ensures implementation and support of cell phone and telecommunications data, voice, and video networks.

  • Prepares and reviews standard operating procedures (SOP) and policies on the operation, use, and maintenance of BWC, radios and cell phones.

  • Performs basic maintenance on radio equipment to include antennas and batteries in both an office and field environment.

  • Develops and maintains equipment tracking and maintenance system for EPSO departmentally issued telecommunication hardware.

  • Develops and maintains Body Worn budget documentation within EPSO and County Financial Services guidelines and provides information to the Technology Services Manager.

  • Represents El Paso County at PPRCN technical and non-technical meetings. Addresses public and government organizations regarding operation of the system and users' equipment. Provides training to designated departments on equipment use.

  • Responsible for reviewing the monthly cell phone billing statements for accuracy and budgetary purposes.

  • Prepares reports and presentations for personnel, and Command Staff as well as federal, state, and local governing bodies.

  • Maintains Office cell phones and hotspots; issues replacement phones as needed.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be honest, truthful, trustworthy, and possess a high degree of personal integrity.

  • Ability to monitor multiple computer systems while also monitoring multiple radio and telephone systems.

  • Ability to follow complex verbal and written instructions.

  • Must be able to multi-task with the ability to operate telephone and computer systems simultaneously.

  • Ability to effectively handle varying degrees of stress in a multitude of emergency situations.

  • Ability to use standard office equipment including computer, telephone, fax machine, and copier.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate's degree or higher in electronics or related field.

  • Any equivalent combination of related education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience in a law enforcement agency, detentions facility, or first responder environment.

Licenses/Certificates:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

  • Must obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Compliance within six months of employment.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, truth verification examination, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, and physical examination.

Work Conditions

Duties are performed in various office and field areas, including emergency dispatch, Enhanced 911, and communications center environment. Travel may be required to work at remote communications sites during hours of darkness, in inclement weather, and in a high-voltage environment. Operations are 24 hours per day, seven (7) days per week, including weekends and holidays. Must be able to work shift work and varying schedules to include holidays, weekends, and overtime. Requires prolonged standing and sitting. Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 75 lbs. Will take part of a regular on-call schedule, weekly/monthly.
