Salary/Pay Range : $ $32,188 - $37,552 annually. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications.

Summary

The Residence Hall Manager (RHM) is a full-time, live-in, professional staff member who is responsible for the daily operations and overall development of a community of multiple buildings in an area on campus The RHM will directly supervise Resident Assistants (RA) and serve as the chair of a collateral assignment. The RHM is charged with developing a community that promotes belonging, engagement, learning, respect for diversity, and student success. The RHM plays an integral role in implementing our residential curriculum called Expedition.

Rotational on-call responsibilities are shared among staff for up to 1,800 residents.

This position is also responsible for the advancement and prioritization of diversity, equity, inclusion and advocacy efforts, functions, and work in all areas of oversight by fostering a culture of belonging in support of multiple intersecting identifies of UCCS undergraduate and graduate students and staff.

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Community Development

  • Establish a strong, positive learning environment within residential areas and the University community.

  • Oversee and evaluate student staff as it relates to Residential Curriculum (Expedition) requirements and efforts on their floor or building. Coordinate educational initiatives as it related to residential curriculum.

  • Assist the RAs in managing theme floors and learning communities.

  • Educate staff and students on policies and procedures, and how to respect the rights of others through community standards.

  • Encourage and support the participation of residents & staff hall, village, and campus programs.

  • Work with University Staff to promote leadership opportunities on campus. Collaborate with other departments, such as Wellness Center, Student Life, UCCS Police, etc. to provide educational and academic initiatives for residents as outlined in Expedition curriculum.

  • Serve on University-wide committees, when appropriate, and approved by the Assistant Director or designee.

  • Periodically attend community builders hosted by RAs.

  • Maintain daily office hours and offer a high degree of visibility for all residents and staff members in the community you oversee

Student Development

  • Coach, train, evaluate and support Resident Assistants to become effective leaders through 1:1 meetings, coaching discussions, small group, and staff meetings.

  • Provide leadership to staff in setting goals for the year, monitor work performance for accuracy and completeness in accordance with department and divisional goals and objectives, ensure staff compliance with established Residence Life policies and procedures.

  • Conduct staff performance evaluations on a regular basis and during the annual departmental evaluation process. Hold staff accountable for meeting performance expectations, including responsibilities outlined in the Expedition curriculum.

  • Lead and participate in meetings, including, but not limited to, staff meetings and one-on-one meetings.

  • Provide staff members with guidance about university policies, procedures, and resources. Utilize departmental resources for ongoing staff development and training.

  • Responsible for supporting response to roommate conflicts, personal crisis, and other concerns.

  • Refer students to appropriate resources on campus when needed.

  • Provide leadership development for students.

Emergency Response

  • Serve on an on-call 24-hour duty rotation. Provide crisis management support and intervention, which may be required on weekends, at night, etc. Respond to additional emergency situations as necessary.

  • Develop knowledge of campus and community resources to ensure timely and efficient referrals when appropriate. Refer all mental health concerns to appropriate resources, such as the Wellness Center and maintain thorough documentation. Utilize the CARE Team with staff members and as a resource and referral.

  • Consult with leadership when appropriate and utilize pro staff on call protocols as an additional resource.

  • This position is a Campus Security Authority (CSA)/Mandatory Reporter and must be comfortable confronting and reporting all crimes as outlined by the Code of Conduct, University or Regent Policy and Colorado Revised Statutes.

Conduct

  • Serve as a Hearing Officer for students referred alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct, Residence Life and Housing Handbook, and other behavioral concerns; administer appropriate sanctions to effectively resolve disciplinary problems in consultation with Residence Life staff and Dean of Students.

  • Facilitate the conduct process to serve as an educational opportunity.

  • Facilitate informal conduct resolutions, such as educational conversations, letters of notice, etc…

  • Develop and foster relationships with the Office of the Dean of Students as it relates to student conduct and student issues.

  • Update and maintain accurate and timely records as pertains to cases in StarRez or Maxient.

Administrative

  • Manage operational functions for residence halls, such as move in/move out, damage assessment, billing, maintenance requests, conducting room inspections, reporting, and following up on custodial issues and maintenance requests.

  • Attend and participate in meetings, including, but not limited to, department meetings, staff meetings, collateral meetings, and one-on-one meetings.

  • Chair a Residence Life collateral, such as but not limited to: Residence Hall Association (RHA) & National Residence Honorary Association (NRHA), RA Training & Development, or RA Recruitment & Selection.

  • Maintain administrative and informational records in all appropriate channels such as Roompact, StarRez, Maxient, and/or Microsoft Teams.

  • Manage a budget and keep efficient records for procurement purposes.

  • Collaborate with key campus partners such as facilities, housing operations, Wellness, UCCS Police, Student Life, Dining and Hospitality Services and other university partners.

  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree at time of hire (Substitution of experience on year for year basis)

  • Experience: 3 or more years of professional experience working in housing, residence life, or student activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of experience working in residential life at an institution of higher education.

  • Masters' degree in higher education, student affairs or related field.

  • Experience with crisis response.

  • Experience supervising paraprofessional experience.

  • Experience working with a residential curriculum.

  • Experience in using student development theory.

Physical Requirements
