Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS), Space and Launch Division, seeks a Network Engineer to serve as a Communications and Networks Hardware Engineer to join the Red LAN program in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The Red LAN program supports the United States Space Force by providing Space Domain Awareness data to end users which is critical to the execution of US space operations. In addition, our Space and Launch Team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next generation technologies in space. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

The Communications and Networks Hardware Engineer will be a part of a highly skilled team that manages multiple critical projects for the Red LAN customers. You will implement and maintain hardware, communication infrastructure, and networks, adhering to Risk Management Framework ( RMF ) requirements, Configuration Management (CM), and customers’ requirements for the Red LAN program. The Red LAN team offers a collaborative environment where you have the opportunity to learn from or lead others.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Comply with cybersecurity requirements ( RMF ) by performing hardening and patching on network infrastructure equipment, STIG implementation and System Security Plan ( SSP ) documentation updates.

  • Support full hardware lifecycle activities, from new hardware requirement identification to managing end of service life replacement.

  • Draft, edit, and resolve database-oriented Discrepancy Reports (DR).

  • Create and maintain technical rack and system network drawings and engineering change order documentation.

  • Implement, troubleshoot, and maintain external Red LAN mission critical DISA, SDN, and various other communication circuit endpoint hardware.

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement Space Category B test activities with TDF , DSC2-D , and CSpOC in support of space sensor product data processing and distribution.

  • Provide hands-on equipment, build, transportation, installation, and troubleshooting support.

  • Provide operational support as needed at Schriever Space Force Base (SSFB) and future installation/integration work at Kirkland Air Force Base (KAFB).

This position is expected to be fully onsite in Colorado Springs, CO.

Travel may be required up to 10% of the time; domestically depending on business needs.

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills / Experience) :

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

  • Experience with maintenance of Cisco switches, routers, command line interface, and network protocols.

  • 3+ years of experience leading network security infrastructure (Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Access Control Lists) projects.

  • 3+ years of experience working on satellite ground/spacecraft systems.

  • Current Security+ (Sec+) certification or other current IAT level II DoD 8140 (previously 8570) Approved Baseline Certification such as CCNA-Security, CYSA+, CND.

Preferred Qualification (Desired Skills/Experience) :

  • Network and RMF related skills: Cisco Switch & Router STIG implementation.

  • Cisco Catalyst and Nexus platforms.

  • Experience translating security policies and procedures into technical architectures.

  • Experience installing and maintaining infrastructure solutions.

  • Experience with COMSEC equipment.

  • Space Control Missile Warning Test Manager Qualification training.

Typical Education/Experience :

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range: 119,850 – 162,150.
