Space Dynamics Laboratory Mid to Senior Level Multidisciplinary Systems Engineer in Colorado Springs, Colorado

The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking a Multidisciplinary Systems Engineer to support the Space Warfighting Analysis Center/Spectrum Warfare Program (SWAC/SWP) mission in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The selected applicant will need a strong analytical/technical background in satellite Ground Entry Points (GEPS), terrestrial data transport/fiber architecture, and cloud computing and storage. This applicant will be responsible for participating in and leading segments of the day-to-day force design analysis for GEPS, fiber transport, and cloud computing and storage. The engineer will work as part of a larger team with customers, external partners and vendors, scientists, developers, engineers, managers, technicians, and support personnel. The ideal candidate will also have experience and be comfortable briefing a diverse community ranging from peers, commercial partners, general officers, and senior government leaders. Much of each day will be spent in spirited technical discussion. You will interface with a diversified group of UARC, FFRDC, and SETA contractors to provide timely analytics and cost-effective solutions to government customers. A technical background along with extensive analytical leadership experience is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understands and addresses customer analytical needs and issues, usually by direct interface

  • Develops and nourishes a strong partner relationship with the SDL Program Manager, customer program management and engineering leadership teams

  • Leads complex system analytics by organizing and focusing the work of multiple engineers with diverse specialties on a common technical solution

  • Briefs industry partners, senior leaders, and general officers with short notice and multiple times per year

  • Works with the SDL Program Manager to ensure the technical team has clear deliverables with clear deadlines

  • Keeps the team focused on the mission of delivering world class analytics

  • Works with the SDL Program Manager to identify, track, avoid, and mitigate risks

  • Works with the SDL Program Manager when it comes to trading issues of scope, approach, cost, and schedule

  • Delivers high-quality analytics on schedule and within budget

    Required Qualifications:

  • MS in a degree field applicable to engineering systems, or a BS and extensive experience with satellite Ground Entry Points (GEPS), terrestrial data transport/fiber architecture, and cloud computing and storage

  • Five or more years of technical analytics experience

  • Ability to understand complex technical issues, translate them to workable tasks, and guide analytical discussions and decisions

  • Experience with cloud-based services (AWS or Azure)

  • Experience managing complex analytics development with loosely defined requirements

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a complex environment with equal partners

  • Proficiency in task management

  • Ability to organize and lead a geographically dispersed team that includes SDL and subcontractor team members

  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment while making direct contributions to team success

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and hold an active Top Secret Clearance

  • Must be able to travel

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical engineering or science degree

  • 10+ years of analytical experience with GEPS, terrestrial data transport, and cloud computing/storage

  • Experience with the following Cloud technologies or their equivalents: VPC, EC2, S3, EBS, EKS, Lambda, RDS

  • AWS Solutions Architect professional certification preferred (Equivalent Azure certifications accepted)

  • Strong awareness of networking and internet protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP, VPN infrastructure, load balancing, application firewalls, and distributed networks

  • Experience with DoD technical programs

  • Demonstrated success managing high tempo projects

    Pay range: $120,000 to $200,000
