Focus on the Family Content Development/Integration Executive Director in Colorado Springs, Colorado

The Executive Director, Content Development and Integration position exists to provide expertise and management leadership in the creation, integration, and exploitation of intellectual property across a variety of channels and media platforms.

This individual guides a cross-functional team of direct and indirect staff and develops processes to ensure that FOF content is created with excellence, and that it is fully utilized across media channels according to the Corporate and KMI strategies, goals, and objectives of the ministry.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with Senior and Executive Management Teams and other internal and external content developers in development and prioritization of new content and the repurposing of existing content across a variety of delivery platforms.

  • Provides executive direction and leadership in the development of viable products and services from content concepts provided by KMI leadership

  • Formulates the strategic vision and blueprint and oversees production of content initiatives not owned by Key Ministry Leaders

  • Leads the executive oversight of content creation across various mediums such as book publishing, periodicals, curriculums, audio dramas, and other specified products. Supervises the Associate Publisher and Executive Producers to ensure high standards of content quality.

  • Assesses and tests content to ensure quality standards and needs are met in the eyes of the target audience

  • Provides executive leadership to the Content Acquisition Board, which reviews new content opportunities, determine ways of exploiting and integrating new and existing content, and recommend / approve projects to be pursued. Supports associate publisher as needed to ensure internal support and promotion of published products

  • Manages negotiation and approval of author production and licensing contracts, thoroughly reviewing and comprehending all contractual terms, with consultation from legal counsel as needed. Takes executive leadership in cultivating and evaluating publisher and production partnerships and organizational structure.

  • Manages and makes decisions regarding processes, policies, and procedures for employee-produced work

  • Serves as an executive level liaison with Focus on the Family’s foreign offices, affiliates, and partners to allow their participation in the content evaluation and development process

  • Represents Focus on the Family as needed in the areas of content development and exploitation and related subjects

  • Serves as Division head for administrative, financial and personnel matters

  • Maintains an up-do-date knowledge of media and production trends

  • Reviews and assesses project and staff performance

  • Approves overall department staffing levels

  • Guides the preparation of the department’s annual budget

  • Partners with legal counsel

  • Builds, equips, and maintains a highly motivated, forward thinking, highly creative team

  • Manages strategic external partnerships (i.e., distribution, content creation, etc.)

    Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned

    Managerial Breadth/Scope of Job:

    Manages 2 direct reports with a staff of about 20. Has P&L responsibility for two of the primary non-donation revenue generating product areas

    Working Environment/Physical Requirements:

  • Office environment

  • Domestic travel, some international travel

  • This role may require occasional travel including nights and weekends

    This position is a “position of responsibility” as defined in the Focus on the Family Moral Policy and is subject to the parameters defined therein regarding divorce

    This role is considered a Spokesperson for Focus on the Family and should represent Focus’ position and tone at all times

    Knowledge/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Product Development disciplines, Communications, Marketing, or related fields

  • 15+ years of experience in creative product development, specializing in leading editorial teams and progressively taking on greater responsibilities in business negotiation and profit and loss (P&L) management.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects on time, on strategy, on budget

  • Prior proven, successful experience working in a variety of media channels, particularly broadcasting, magazine, and publishing

  • Extensive knowledge of emerging “server based” media channels and trends

  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with integrating intellectual property across multiple channels

  • Confidence in contract and vendor negotiations

  • Thorough understanding of FOF mission, philosophy, values, and objectives

  • Thorough understanding of political, social, and cultural issues that impact the family

  • Prior experience working in or with foreign offices or worldwide organizations

    Skills, Abilities, and Special Talents/Gifts:

  • Sensitivity to the needs, cultural sensitivities, and capabilities of FOF global partners

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Polished social and communication skills, both written and oral

  • Ability to develop strategic and creative plans for multiple function division

  • Requires considerable ingenuity and judgment to solve complex problems

  • Ability to manage, mentor, motivate and develop creative staff

    Stewardship Requirements:

    Responsible for annual budget in excess of $20million

    Salary Range: $104,004 to $123,243/yr.
