KBR is seeking a Human Resources Director to support the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). Supporting the National Science Foundation (NSF) the US Antarctic Program manages 3 year-round stations (McMurdo, Amundsen-Scott South Pole, and Palmer), 2 research vessels and many field camps in support of summer over and winter over campaigns.

The Human Resources Director oversees all Human Resources (HR) related support services including, but not limited to, employment, employee benefits, diversity and inclusion, and harassment, and sexual harassment and victim advocacy for all stations on the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC).

Roles, Responsibilities, Accountability, and Authority

  • Reports to the Project Director

  • Coordinates and provides comprehensive and proactive training and education, and clear systems and processes for managing conflicts with and between employees, handling and investigating complaints of harassment/discrimination and other unjust practice allegations.

  • Leads HR staff, in multiple locations, during the planning and administering of all HR activities.

  • Partners with the leadership team to formulate, develop, implement and evaluate a HR and talent management strategy to achieve the organization’s vision, mission and goals on behalf of the NSF ASC mission. Serves as management representative when called upon.

  • Provides timely details and communication to senior leadership on routine and critical operations.

  • Serves as advisor to senior leadership regarding the ASC people strategy.

  • Recommends and administers HR policies and programs that align with and supports overall mission requirements.

  • Partners with HR/Legal support to identify and process employment, travel and security documentation requirements.

Duties and Functions—General

The Human Resources Director is responsible for assembling and leading the HR team. The Human Resources Director:

  • Possesses demonstrated ability to develop and deliver employee and leadership training.

  • Represents ASC at senior leadership meetings and events.

  • Prepares recommendations to ASC senior management concerning HR issues and concerns including administrative corrective actions.

  • Serves a primary point of contact for harassment and victim advocacy a required.

  • Interfaces directly with NSF, subcontractors, and company representatives as needed to assist in resolving ASC HR issues and concerns.

  • Ensures assigned group programs, practices and policies comply with applicable laws, regulations and KBR company and ASC contract policies.

  • Provides oversight of all ASC employee life cycle processes.

  • Oversees the analysis, maintenance, and communication of records required by law or local Government bodies, or other departments in the organization.

  • Investigates matters of employee relations issues to include Code of Business Conduct (COBC) and "Hotline" issues.

  • Maintains current knowledge and application of all relevant laws and regulations at the local, state and national level relating to employment and ensure organizational compliance. This includes educating and advising managers and senior leaders on HR-related legal and regulatory matters and ensuring HR programs, practices and policies are aligned.

  • Ensures employee files and records are properly and securely maintained.

  • Manages daily activities and support services of assigned staff to ensure compliance with the company's policies and procedures.

  • Manages, leads and develops assigned staff for efficient utilization of HR assignment, performance, morale and overall welfare.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Certification, and Experience

  • Minimum ten (10) years senior level experience in human resources management with a Bachelor's degree in an associated discipline or equivalent experience.

  • In depth knowledge of US Employment Laws and their application and Experience leading HR functions/teams across geographical location.

  • Prior overseas project experience with diverse workforce and military operations preferred.

  • Knowledge of HR strategy development and implementation.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems applications, Workday HRMS modules is preferred but not required.

  • Experience in analysis, critical decision making, project management, and process improvement.

  • Union knowledge a plus but not required.

  • Relevant Antarctic experience within the program is preferred but not required.

  • HRCI and/or SHRM Certification is preferred.

Physical and Other Specific Requirements

Deployment to Antarctica is required in this position, and therefore the individual must successfully complete the physical and dental examinations as required by NSF for deployment to Antarctica. Failure to meet these requirements may result in withdrawal of employment offer or other employment action.

U.S. citizenship is required.

The successful candidate must pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation as a condition of employment.
