Description Under general supervision of the Solid Waste Supervisor, the Solid Waste Equipment Operator, is responsible for operating a variety of motorized equipment in the collection and disposal of municipal solid waste.
Principal Duties
** Current CDL holders are eligible for a $1,500 hire-on bonus.
- Operate a variety ofsolid wastecollection equipment to include rear-end load truck, semi-automated rural rear-end load truck, open-top brush/rubbish truck, and boom-type brush/rubbish truck on an assigned daily route performing solid waste collection activities, ensuring the safety of others, city equipment, and private property by following the proper safety procedures and by watching for pedestrians, overhead utility lines and/or other obstructions.
- Responsible for checking daily work assignments,maintaining and documenting a daily route sheet of collection information, notifying customers of collection issues by utilizing tagging procedures, and reporting collection related service issues and/or concerns.
- Perform routine checks on collection equipment to ensure operational efficiency and good operating condition; perform preventative maintenance checks; identify and report equipment malfunctions; clean assigned collection vehicle, as needed to include washing and lubricating vehicle.
- Perform daily pre-trip/post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle and report any minor/major repairs to fleet shop as needed. Assure mobile camera system operational functionality.
- Responsible for sequencing new customer accounts, report collection issues, complete documentation for customer service verification in vehicle routing system.
- Report any personnel injuries, vehicle incidents, or damage to property or containers to immediate supervisor.
- Participate in all required training including safety, environmental compliance, and hazardous waste identification.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required: High school diploma or GED equivalent State of Texas Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Available for emergency response and catastrophic weather events Available for after hour support as needed and/or required, which includes evening, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred: Two (2) years experience driving a commercial vehicle Previous work experience in solid waste collection operations Excellent customer service skills Basic computer competency
