Packaging Machine Operator - Colby, WI

This is a full-time, hourly position.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Follow time and attendance guidelines in accordance with the employee handbook.

  2. Work cooperatively in a team environment and accept and distribute instructions.

  3. Able to stand for long periods while leaning forward.

  4. Ability to occasionally lift and / or carry up to 70 pounds individually or 100 pounds with assistance.

  5. Ability to squat and bend frequently during shift.

  6. Ability to grasp, reach, twist, push and / or pull using both hands and wrists as needed.

  7. Capable of accurately operating and reading a scale.

  8. Able to work around moving conveyors without motion sickness.

  9. Attention to detail and ability to see and verify small writing and engravings.

  10. Good communication skills and able to perform basic math without errors.

  11. Tolerant of seasonally very warm temperatures.

Occasionally = 1-40% of shift Regularly = 41-60% of shift Frequently = 60-90% of shift Continuously = 90-100% of shift

QUALITY CONTROL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Appreciation for cleanliness and sanitation, keeping work area clean and organized.

  2. Knowledge of and ability to follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

  3. Complete understanding of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and its importance.

  4. Maintain all Safe Quality Food (SQF) guidelines.

  5. Maintain excellent personal hygiene and wear appropriate apparel for the job.

NOTE : Required to report food safety problems or concerns immediately to a person with authority to initiate action as indicated on the organizational chart.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

  1. Be aware of and follow up to date OSHA regulations that apply to the tasks in your job.

  2. Practice safe lifting techniques, bending and lifting with your legs not your back.

  3. Pivot with your feet avoiding twisting at the waist.

  4. Be aware of your surroundings, watching for forklift traffic and trip hazards such as pallets or cords.

  5. Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the job you are doing.

  6. Never operate equipment for which you have not been properly trained or certified for.

EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Complete all pre-op functions and correctly install temperature chart and appropriate filter assembly.

  2. Facilitate assembly and setup of packaging machine, verifying correct parts for the product is installed.

  3. Verify pouch code embossment and that correct film is staged and used for each roll/letter change.

  4. Enter and verify all correct machine settings are entered into the HMI terminal for the product being run.

  5. Verify all belts and pumps are operating and that freezer is clear and at the correct temperature.

  6. Partner with Cook Operator and Team Leader and/or Supervisor especially at startup and product changes.

  7. Watch seals to assure no leaks, verify pouch weight and monitor packaging fill tank to maintain optimal levels.

  8. Operate machine at maximum efficiency to minimize down time for roll and letter changes.

  9. Legibly complete all necessary paperwork to maintain proper records for manufacturing and inventory.

  10. Maintain cleanliness and organization of machine area and perform clean up at production end.

  11. Other duties as assigned by Supervisors or Management.

  12. Report any suspicious activity related to food defense.
