Duties and Responsibilities: Ability to instruct with sound principles in the area of competitive aquatics, with attention given to one or more of the following: Swimming Water Polo Triathlon Training Ability to speak and communicate before both small and large groups of people with poise and enthusiasm. Prepare lesson plans and instructional material for specific area of instruction Give feedback to participants regarding their technique and performance. Provide a safe, fun and enjoyable learning environment for all participants. Maintain open communication with direct supervisor regarding scheduling and coaching. Maintain a professional demeanor and attitude with participants of all ages, patrons, customers, staff and upper management. Arrive 15 minutes before class to set-up and speak with participants. Be ready and prepared to teach. Help facilitate equality and fairness among all participants. Clear communication to participants of class changes Adhere to all Protecting the Mission policies and procedures as established by The Salvation Army. Knowledge of safety precautions needed and ability to ensure compliance/ adherence by all class members. Maintain a safe working environment; report all hazards or potentially unsafe conditions to the Aquatics Manager or Operations staff. Immediately notify appropriate Aquatic personnel of all accidents or injuries. Participate in injury and incident reports as needed. Follow and adhere to all The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. General Qualifications and Proficiencies: Must be at least 18 years old. At least five years of prior experience teaching or working in the area of focus required Certification at an 'advanced' level of expertise required. Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalency. Must have strong organizational skills and abilities. Must have a working knowledge and ability to operate a computer. Must be able to function effectively with minimal or no supervision. Must be able to demonstrate various skills in instruction specified Ability to modify and adhere class instruction and/or curriculum to align with TSA culture and mission. Must successfully complete the Child Safety training as established by The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center. Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department as well as The Salvation Army. Have a Philosophy of education that is consistent with that of the Kroc Center and The Salvation Army. Have the ability to work with children, adults, and other staff: Ability to interact and engage appropriately with participants of all ages. Sensitivity and ability to adapt to the individual needs of participants. Must have ability to work well with people of all backgrounds. Ability to use sound judgment when correction is necessary Dependability. Ability to handle security and medical or crisis situations calmly. Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving. Ability to receive feedback with professionalism. Physical Requirements: Ability to demonstrate skills & techniques in area of focus. Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects and reach overhead. Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs.
