Posted January 25, 2024 The English Department at Case Western Reserve University invites applications for one or more full-time lecturer positions in our writing-intensive general education curriculum (see: https://case.edu/artsci/writing/academics.) We seek colleagues who champion an inclusive, diverse, and transformative university and who are excited to join our energetic and collegial program. Our first-year and advanced writing seminars cover a range of topics and emphasize intellectual inquiry, critical thinking, and academic writing. We are specifically interested in candidates who have expertise in teaching writing in the context of social science, engineering, healthcare and/or scientific disciplines. Lecturers' responsibilities will include working with writers from diverse educational, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, designing and leading first-year Academic Inquiry Seminars, and consulting with students in the Writing Resource Center. Responsibilities may also include designing and leading other writing-intensive seminars; creative writing, professional/technical or scientific communication courses; and/or other undergraduate courses. Opportunities for writing program administrative and assessment activities are available and count in the teaching load. Responsibilities & Duties: Teaching load is the equivalent of six courses over the academic year (does not include summer), which may include a mix of classroom teaching, WRC consulting, and administrative activities. Initial appointment is for one academic year, beginning August 2024; this position is eligible for annual reappointment based on performance and programmatic need. About Case Western Reserve and the Writing Program: CWRU is an independent research university located in Cleveland's University Circle, a square mile urban district of cultural, medical, educational, religious, and social service institutions. We enroll over 12,000 undergraduate and graduate/professional students in both liberal arts and professional/technical disciplines. The Writing Program serves as a resource for all CWRU writers, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff. Our Writing Resource Center offers consulting in several locations on campus, including our main site in Bellflower Hall, the historic building that serves as the home for Writers House, a gathering place for writers that supports community programming, craft workshops, and the New Gutenberg Annex, which is a moveable type print lab and book arts workshop. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: PhD in a humanities, social science, or STEM discipline - or a terminal degree in medicine/healthcare - complemented by experience teaching and professional development activities related to college-level writing is required. Experience in teaching college-level writing and a PhD in Rhetoric/Writing Studies or closely related field preferred.
