PREFORMED LINE PRODUCTS COMPANY Technical Sales Representative in Cleveland, Ohio

The Technical Sales Representative for our Inspection Services market who will be responsible for selling our technical services and products to prospective clients by being the main point of contact with PLP's independent sales rep. network in the US. This role will work closely with customers to understand their needs, and then propose solutions that meet them. 

 Essential Functions:

  • Identify and target potential customers based on technical and business alignment. 
  • Identify purchasing influences and coordinate routine and effective sales calls with and without our independent sales network.
  • Develop a deep understanding of our service products and, the pertinent technical specifications and applications of our services. 
  • Provide technical presentations to our potential and existing customer base showcasing the features and benefits of our service-related products. 
  • Work with and establish relationships with PLP's extensive independent sales network. 
  • Networks with industry representatives and customers as part of the sales effort.
  • Assists with activities at trade shows, including lead retrieval and follow-up.
  • Resolves all customer complaints regarding services.
  • Assists with investigating new industry segments or business use case opportunities.
  • Assists with identifying and investigating new products and services opportunities with customers.
  • Cooperates with Marketing and R&E as required to investigate new service opportunities or service-related issues with customers.
  • Effectively monitors travel and entertainment expenses.
  • Provides a sales forecast on a regular basis.   
  • Communicates through timely trip reports or territory updates as required.

     Qualifications and Requirements:

  • This position requires technical sales experience and/or inspection experience in the power utility industry, preferred, and some knowledge of the industry's services, product applications, marketing techniques, and requirements to be able to explain the product or service's benefits to prospective customers and close sales.

  • 10+ years in a technical or "service" sales role.  Preferably with some experience managing outside sales/service teams.  
  • Proven experience in technical sales, with a track record of achieving sales targets.
  • Strong technical background, with the ability to understand and explain technical concepts to customers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with customers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to propose innovative solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive the sales process from plan to close.
  • Demonstrated ability to use applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Travel as required - up to 50% of the time -- in support of work-related activities.
  • Must posses a valid driver's license.
  • Must be a self-starter who can work with minimal supervision.
