The Sherwin-Williams Company Technical Lead - Global Packaging EPR in Cleveland, Ohio

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS: (1) REGULATORY SUPPORT: Maintain deep Subject Matter Expertise in Global Packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations and adjacent regulations (Post-Consumer Recycled Content, Single-Use Plastics, Household Hazardous Waste, and Truth in Recycling), including monitoring new and modified legislation and regulations. Serve as internal Subject Matter Expert for Global Packaging EPR regulations and lead impact assessments with the appropriate Regional Product Stewards and business teams. Define strategy and lead implementation of required actions to support compliance and continued sale or distribution of products. Partner closely with S-W Legal department on regulatory applicability interpretations Develop and implement robust regulatory controls within key S-W business processes and systems to achieve compliance with Global Packaging EPR regulations. Provide expert-level support to Regional regulatory advisors who submit EPR reports. (2) CUSTOMER SUPPORT: Provide expert level response to internal and external customer inquiries on Global Packaging EPR regulations. Provide regulatory impact assessment summaries and Sherwin-Williams' response plans to senior business leadership. Partner closely with S-W Legal department to respond to Agency inquiries with potential for significant penalties or business disruption. Provide training to customers on regulatory requirements and/or S-W processes. Represent S-W Product Stewardship externally on trade associations globally, including committee leadership roles. Partner with Government Affairs and business teams to develop advocacy positions globally. (3) CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT: Lead development of business requirements and user stories for new or enhanced IT systems to support compliance with Global Packaging EPR regulations. Implement system or process improvements to improve efficiency, accuracy, or cost of compliance with Global Packaging EPR regulations. Provide Subject Matter Expertise on cross functional continuous improvement teams (for example, Business Transformation) Engage with professional societies as needed to maintain professional certifications. FORMAL EDUCATION: Required: Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Environmental Science, or similar from an accredited institution Preferred: Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Environmental Science, or similar from an accredited institution KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE: Required: 10 years' experience in combined Product Stewardship, Packaging, and R&D functions 5 years' experience working with Global regulations 5 years' experience on trade association regulatory committees Preferred: 15+ years' experience in combined Product Stewardship and Packaging, and R&D functions Project Management Professional (PMP) Certified, Six Sigma Black Belt, or equivalent TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Required: Project lead of cross functional, large-scale projects or initiatives Use a variety of IT applications Excellent presentation skills Experience in paint & coatings or chemical industry Preferred: Experience presenting to external and senior leadership audiences Professional certification Travel 15% Sherwin-Williams is proud to be an Affirmative Action, Equal Employment Opportunity, Inclusion and Diversity Supportive Employer.
