Posted May 17, 2023 Title: Senior Faculty Advisor to the Vice President of Student Affairs Department: Division of Student Affairs Management Center: University General Location: TBD Supervisor Name and Title: Vice President for Student Affairs POSITION OBJECTIVE This position is intended to serve as a bridge between the CWRU faculty and the Division of Student Affairs. The main objective is to bring together and synergize the cultures and practices of the students' academic and non-curricular experiences for improved student success and satisfaction. This is a three-year, 50% FTE commitment for a CWRU faculty member. Reporting to the VP of Student Affairs, the position serves as a faculty advisor to the VP and point of contact for all faculty regarding all parts of the Division. The Senior Faculty Advisor will support the implementation of the Student Affairs office reorganization, providing insight to how faculty across the university can become a strong partner in the office. This includes working closely with the leadership team of the VP of Student Affairs. In addition, the Senior Faculty Advisor will develop and begin implementing a five year plan for faculty-student engagement, with metrics focused on both faculty and student retention and satisfaction. This includes listening, identifying problems and solutions, and then developing a plan for implementing the solutions, not limited to: Improving advising and mentoring Facilitating informal mentoring interactions (lunches, etc.) Optimizing faculty engagement with, and support for, student activities Building and strengthening university traditions, old and new, including plans for celebrating 200th anniversary of founding of Western Reserve Other duties include creating an advisory board of faculty for the Division, and working with office leads (like career services, research, etc.) on how best to integrate faculty and the office work into the student experience. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Work with the Vice President of Student Affairs and their leadership team on the transition of the office (30%) Develop and implement a five year plan for faculty-student engagement (30%) Develop actionable steps for faculty partnership in the various offices throughout the Division (30%) NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform other duties as assigned. (10%) CONTACTS Department: Daily contact with the Vice President and senior team. Students: Occasional contact with students and student groups for feedback into the integrated processes. University: Regular contact with school-based deans, office of the provost, faculty at large, faculty senate as appropriate. External: None SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY None. QUALIFICATIONS Experience: Leadership service at the department, decanal, or faculty senate level is favorably viewed. Education: Doctoral degree required; tenured or tenure track. REQUIRED SKILLS Commitment to and appreciation of working with diverse groups of individuals, including age, race, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic and educational background, and ability. Proficiency in current software applications: spreadsheet, database, PowerPoint, electronic calendar, word-processing, email, Zoom, Adobe products; and ability to quickly learn the Student Information System. Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills with the ability to organize and maintain in multiple formats large quantities of data. Ability to assimilate and communicate information clearly and accurately to a variety of audiences. Ability to write clear copy for sharing with targeted audiences.
