Research Veterinary Technicians monitor and care for the health and wellbeing of research animals and support foundational pre-clinical research that will one day improve the lives of patients around the world.

A caregiver in this position works 7:30AM - 4:00PM.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Evaluate animals upon arrival and during the quarantine period.

  • Administer medical treatments to animals.

  • Assist the Veterinarian, investigators and animal caregivers with performing technical procedures.

  • Monitor the conditions of post-operative animals and animals requiring veterinary care.

  • Develop and implement animal health treatment plans and communicate the plan to research personnel.

  • Maintain accurate records.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Associate's degree from a Veterinary Technician program.

  • Licensed as a Registered Veterinary Technician (VT) in the State of Ohio.

  • Demonstrated competence as a licensed Veterinary Technician.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and transport equipment, supplies and/or animals weighing up to 75 pounds using carts with casters.

  • Capable of tolerating a significant amount of standing, bending and walking.

  • May be required to work with biological, chemical and radiation hazards after proper training

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
