Case Western Reserve University Research Assistant 2 in Cleveland, Ohio

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Working under general supervisor, plan and carry out projects for the collaborative research group in the departments of Psychiatry and Neurology. Primary responsibility includes overseeing the organization and management of multiple small to moderate clinical research projects both at Case Western Reserve University and in the community. The research assistant will also be responsible for coordination of project requirements and personnel associated with the projects.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  1.        Recruit study participants through advertising and regular contact with various medical and mental health providers. Directly contact potential participants at outreach events and through referral call lists provided by hospitals and related organizations. Create and maintain relationships with referring organizations. Perform participant screening activities with minimal supervision according to protocol guidelines. (25%)
  2.        Conduct study assessment visits with study participants including administration of questionnaires, mental health diagnostic measures, and behavioral rating scales. Coordinate all participant activities for assigned research study, including scheduling visits and communicating participant status updates with all members of the study team on a regular basis. (30%)
  3.        Plan and carry out projects in accordance with protocol guidelines. Maintain accurate study records as indicated per protocol. Work together with Regulatory Coordinator to complete and submit all IRB required documents on time and within that study¿s IRB¿s guidelines. Comply with all NIH Guidelines when working with an NIH-sponsored project. (20%)
  4.        Assist in the maintenance of study databases and data analysis. Assist in formatting and submitting manuscripts for publication. Assist in grant application preparation. (15%)
  5.        Train new research members in proper protocol. (6%)

     

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Perform other research-related duties as assigned. (4%)

 

CONTACTS 

Department: Continuous contact with: research operations managers, principal/co-investigators, biostatisticians, research assistants, data coordinators, and volunteers. Frequent contact with other department faculty and staff. The purpose of this continuous contact is to discuss project timelines and tasks, share information relative to projects, and to understand expectations of assignments. 

University: Occasional contact with members of the DSMBs and IRBs. The purpose of this frequent contact would be to assist with updates to regulatory documents as needed and to ensure compliance with all regulations and policies. Additionally, contact will include reporting of safety information, data, and updates to protocol changes.

External: Frequent contact with investigators and study staff at other study sites. The purpose of this frequent contact would be to coordinate study procedures and project timelines with collaborating investigators, study staff and sites.

Students: Occasional contact with student employees to assign tasks related to projects and follow-up on progress of these tasks.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

May be assigned short-term supervisory responsibilities under the direction of the division operations manager or principal investigator.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and experience: Bachelor's degree (preferably in Psychology or related field) and 1 to 3 years of years of research or mental health experience (working with mentally ill and/or disadvantaged populations required) or Associate's degree in an approved biotechnology program and 2 to 4 years of related experience.
