Refinish Color Innovation Leader PPG IndustriesCleveland Ohio At PPG, the Refinish Color Innovation Leader is a visionary role, marrying the artistry of color with the precision of modern technology to set new standards within the automotive refinish industry. Reporting directly to the Global Technical Manager for Refinish Technology, you will be the torchbearer of ingenuity, leading a dedicated team to orchestrate a diverse technical project portfolio. Your leadership will directly influence the development of PPG's cutting-edge color products, driving innovation from the lab to the market. This is a role for a leader who not only appreciates the aesthetics of color but also revels in the challenge of technological evolution and product advancement. Your strategic acumen will guide the research and development efforts, ensuring that each project not only aligns with our growth ambitions but also solidifies our market position as an industry leader. You will navigate through the complex landscape of product development, from the genesis of sustainable raw material strategies to the actualization of manufacturing and market deployment. As a Color Innovation Leader, you will not only follow color trends but will anticipate and set them, keeping PPG at the forefront of the industry's palette. Key Responsibilities

  • Entrusted with the leadership of a six-member team composed of three chemists and three technicians, you will be responsible for setting the vision, coordinating efforts, and driving the professional growth of each team member. Your leadership will be instrumental in harnessing their collective expertise to innovate and advance our color technology platforms.
  • Contribute to on time in full, right first-time delivery of both Compass (Gatekeeper) and non-Compass projects to provide the business with products that sustains our industry advantages and promotes sales growth
  • Through the use of Project Management skills, execute and deliver on all plans related to product manufacturing transfers both from an insourcing as well as outsourcing perspective
  • Ensure that all staff optimize cost and performance requirements including raw material costs, processing costs, and product sustainability in all formulation practices
  • Ensure maintenance of all color product portfolios and platforms for our collision market by promoting collaboration with field-based and marketing stakeholders
  • Develop awareness of competitive products and activities and support appropriate benchmarking evaluations and exercises
  • Collaborate on development and exploitation of alternative or new resin technology for both waterborne and solventborne platforms in the formulation of products intended to support any and all color capability improvements needed
  • Maintain an open communication and dialogue with the global technical, manufacturing, and marketing organizations to ensure alignment to goals, regulatory concerns, and product performance in each market

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related scientific field
  • Requires demonstrated success in technical project management, with a history of steering projects to successful completion and achieving key performance objectives.
  • Definitive leadership qualities with experience in guiding, coaching, and cultivating talent within a dynamic team environment, promoting professional growth and team success.
  • An MBA, PMP certification, or Lean/Six Sigma accreditation is highly regarded, offering a significant plus to candidates with these credentials in addition to their scientific acumen.
  • 10 - 15% travel to support manufacturing and development activities at the research, manufacturing, and customer level.
