Case Western Reserve University Assistant Director for Experiential Learning in Cleveland, Ohio

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Assistant Director for Experiential Learning will oversee and manage the office's current and growing experiential learning programs and initiatives, including Practicum, the Experiential Education Database, Summer on the Cuyahoga, treks, micro internships, and more. This position will collaborate internally with faculty, staff, and campus partners in support of students having equitable access to experiential learning opportunities; as well as externally with employer partners, alumni and others in support of experiential learning. Additionally, the assistant director will lead at least one career interest area, and provide career-related services to students and alumni in their development of lifelong career management skills, obtaining relevant work experience, and integrating academic and career plans. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Continue to develop a more integrated model of experiential learning by maintaining collaborative relationships with other university departments offering experiential learning opportunities (e.g., Co-Op Office, Undergraduate Research Office, Study Abroad); and the Center for Civic Engagement and Learning (CCEL) for community service. (25%)
  2. Work closely with the director on strategic initiatives to elevate and enhance experiential learning as a salient feature of the undergraduate co-curricular experience, including efforts to strengthen existing programs and partnerships, develop new experiential learning programs that address experience gaps within the student body, and integrate experiential learning into the student experience. (20%)   
  3. Counsel students on internship and full-time job search strategies, applying to graduate school, and interviewing; conduct mock interviews. Advise individual students and groups of students interested in experiential learning through individual appointments and the development and delivery of innovative workshops. (20%)
  4. Collaborate with the Senior Associate Director of Career Education, the Director of Undergraduate Research, the Director of Co-op, the Assistant Director of First-Year Experiential Education, the International Student Career Specialist, and others to collect, analyze and distribute comprehensive data on student participation in experiential learning across the university, including internships, practicum, Humanities@Work, Summer-On-The-Cuyahoga, Wall Street Trek, Meet The Accountants, research, co-op, and more. Relevant information and data from participating students and employers will be distributed to faculty, staff and/or administration to build program participation and awareness, while assessing program effectiveness. Benchmark data against University Athletic Association (UAA) university peers. (10%) 
  5. Oversee 1-2 career interest areas with opportunities for networking, early career exploration and experiential learning, and integrated academic and career planning. Identify appropriate web-based and print resources for students in assigned career interest area(s), emphasizing a targeted approach to career education including career exploration, job search strategies, mid-career transitions, and graduate and professional school planning. (10%)
  6. Initiate contact with regional, national, and international organizations in an effort to promote experiential learning and to facilitate contact between qualified students and prospective employers. Coordinate and promote student and employer participation in new and established internship programs and resources (e.g., Case Western Reserve University Practicum, Summer on the Cuyahoga, Humanities@Work, GCP Stem Micro-Internship); respond to both strategic and on-demand hiring needs of current and prospective employers in a timely manner. (10%)
