Case Western Reserve University Assistant Director, Academic Programs in Cleveland, Ohio

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Assistant Director will direct and manage the general administrative functions and activities of the Weatherhead School of Management Academic Dean's area. This crucial position ensures that  operations are efficient and organized, and that strategic programs, projects, and events are effectively executed. In addition, the assistant director will be responsible for providing executive support to the academic dean of the school.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Track and monitor key academic program initiatives and milestones. Liaise with faculty and staff to gather status updates and maintain academic program reporting. Report progress against goals to executive leadership and senior staff on a regular basis. (20%)
  2. Lead all administrative aspects of academic program leadership meetings and events. Create executive presentations, update operational reports and dashboards, prepare agendas, and any other materials as needed to support the dean's office. Review and analyze academic program performance as needed. Direct monthly reminders and manage information flows from academic program faculty and staff. Direct the operational onboarding process for newly-hired staff with regard to academic degree program needs and expectations. Draft academic communications. Oversee the timely distribution of key degree program communications. (40%)
  3. Direct execution of select academic program and related initiatives. Define course of action, assign follow ups and owners. Identify and mitigate risks to successful completion of program goals. Monitor progress towards goals and against timelines and budget. Report status to designated project stakeholders on a monthly basis. Partner with the Weatherhead School faculty and staff as well as other schools and departments as applicable to ensure dual and joint degrees are effectively managed and joint events are coordinated effectively. (40%)

CONTACTS

Department: Continuous contact with dean, associate/assistant deans, department chairs, faculty directors. Regular contact with faculty and staff as required to perform essential functions.

University: Frequent contact with the president's office, vice presidents, deans, trustees, directors of administrative departments, faculty and staff as required to perform essential functions.

External: Daily contact with visitors, alumni, corporate executives, donors, vendors, and various organizations as required to perform essential functions.

Students: Frequent contact with undergraduate, graduate and professional students as required to perform essential functions.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct supervision of students, vendors, contractors depending upon the project.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 5 or more years of job-related experience required. Experience in a higher education or non-profit setting is preferred.

Education: Bachelor's degree required.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

Demonstrated leadership and progressive administrative and operational responsibility in an academic and/or non-profit environment.

Professional and effective oral and written communication skills; and good interpersonal skills with the ability to work and communicate with various individuals within and external to the University. Must demonstrate appropriate cultural sensitivities to international contacts.

Strong organizational skills; ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines. Must demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy, time management skills, follow-through.

Exhibit a high level of initiative, ability to work independently and use appropriate discretion in decision-making.
