Provides technical advice and guidance on installation, adaptation, configuration or enhancement of company technical products, programs and systems. Provides expertise for resolving technical problems, troubleshoots product and modifies product to customer requirements. Provides training to customers.

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Manager 1 - Technical Services Engineering (Research and Development) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This role is located in Clearfield, Utah . The selected candidate will lead a team of R/D technicians to support additive manufacturing, test articles and testing, and machine shop delivered components. Responsibilities:

Responsible for daily operations of a team or work unit (direct supervision of the team, assignment of work, schedules, day to day workflow, and operating costs).

  • Lead a team of highly skilled development technicians

  • Manage an active support lab workspace including an additive manufacturing, machine shop, and a specialty composite materials testing lab.

  • Provide supervision and guidance for the area for operational efficiency, safety, planning and forecasting, skills training, and customer support

  • Provide ownership for equipment start-up, calibration, reliability, and operational readiness

  • Provide team guidance and leadership regarding business processes, best practices, and output metrics for work requests and associated documentation.

  • Drive timely and clearly communicated decisions and recommendations to area management and customers.

  • Provide weekly and monthly metrics reporting and opportunities for improvement

  • Interface with other departments to ensure other program needs are supported

  • Mentor less experienced team members

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited institution and 5 years of relevant professional/military experience; OR Master of Science degree from an accredited institution in a relevant STEM discipline and 3 years of relevant professional/military experience

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

  • Have extensive knowledge of composite materials, processes and testing

  • Understanding of R/D and development lab operations and best practices

  • Knowledge in composite materials physical and mechanical testing standards and processes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance

  • Prior experience leading engineers and/or engineering technicians

  • Experience with mechanical testing (load frames, text fixtures, ASTM test practices) and physical testing (DMA, DSC, TGA, FTIR, SEM) methods, equipment, and reporting

  • Experience in additive manufacturing processes and machines

  • Experience in basic machine shop practices and operations

Salary Range: $90,300 - $135,500

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
